'I'm not going to listen to you': Singh claps back at Poilievre ahead of House return

A battle is heating up between Pierre Poilievre and Jagmeet Singh ahead of the return of the House of Commons next week, as the Conservatives challenge the NDP to help them bring down the government.

Singh said Wednesday he won't be taking advice from Poilievre, while sidestepping questions about whether the NDP would vote in favour of a non-confidence motion, as Poilievre challenged him to do.

Twenty-eight bull riders to compete in Strathmore's 'Last Cowboy Standing' event

To cap off the end of the summer, a bull riding event will be held in Strathmore later this month.

September 21 marks the fourth annual 'Last Cowboy Standing', hosted by Lazy P Rodeo Company. The event will take place at the Strathmore Ag Grounds. 

There will be 28 bull riders competing in an elimination-style competition.

"Generally in bull riding, there's a long round and a short round. Fourteen riders will come back in round two, and six will come back in round three," said Cale Pribyl, owner of Lazy P.

Water usage falls to safe levels for the first time in nine days

For the first time in over a week, the City of Calgary says water usage is in the green zone.

Construction is ongoing on the Bearspaw South Feeder Main.

Strathmore gets its water from Calgary and has been following the lead of the city by bringing in Stage 4 outdoor water restrictions.

"We know the water restrictions have been frustrating, but you really are making a difference," says the Town of Strathmore in a recent Facebook post.

Chestermere eyeing $83,000 raised so far for Charity Golf Classic

During a recent city council meeting, it was a unanimous decision to approve funding of $150,000 as part of an expenditure to the 2024 Operating Budget.

The funds for the budget are part of the upcoming Chestermere Charity Golf Classic on Thursday (Sept. 19).

Chief Administrative Officer, Kent Edney says the city has to collect money from tournament registrations and sponsorships along with paying money out to the golf course for promotional items.

Adult learning program set to kick off at Strathmore Municipal Library

The Strathmore Municipal Library is launching its Strathmore & Area Adult Inclusive Learning (SAIL) program over the next month.

There are many programs in SAIL, from learning workplace skills to taking your Canadian Academic Education Credential (CAEC), formerly known as a GED. 

"This is a very busy time of year as we're starting up our classes again," said Rhonda Rhys-Doering, literary services coordinator at the library. "Right now, it's kind of like the start of school for us as well."

August hailstorm second costliest event in Canadian history

Billions of dollars in damages were caused by the hailstorm that struck Strathmore and the surrounding area including Calgary back in August.

According to the Insurance Bureau of Canada (IBC), the record-breaking hailstorm caused nearly $2.8 billion in damages, making it the second most expensive event in Canada's history, second only to the 2016 Fort McMurray wildfire.

Dorothy Bodeux is the Volunteer of the Month for August

Dorothy Bodeux is the 104.5 More Country Volunteer of the Month for August.

Bodeux was in the studio on Wednesday (Sept. 11) and said she was excited to hear the news.

"I was overwhelmed, I have no other words than that. I was shocked."

Bodeux has dedicated her time to many different volunteer opportunities around Strathmore.

Strathmore Ag Society set to announce scares for upcoming Fright Night event

The Strathmore Ag Grounds will soon buzz with eerie excitement as the annual Fright Night event approaches.

Staff with the Strathmore & District Agricultural Society will make an announcement on Friday (Sept. 13) for its annual Fright Night event.

"Something spooky is coming your way," says a post from the Strathmore Stampede on its Facebook page.

Last year's event featured a few haunted houses for adults and kids and to cap off the night fireworks were held.

There also was face painting, food trucks, and a bar for the adults.

Kamala Harris and Donald Trump lay out different plans for America on debate stage

Kamala Harris pushed back on Donald Trump's claims about immigration and abortion as the two leaders met face-to-face for the first time on a debate stage in Philadelphia Tuesday.

The matchup marked a pivotal moment during the final sprint of a close race for the White House and saw Trump and Harris lay out starkly different visions for the future of America. 

While it started with a handshake, the debate quickly saw the Democratic vice-president and Republican former president zero in on each other's records.
