10-15 cm of snow expected today, winter weather travel advisory issued
An Alberta Clipper that barreling towards the region is expected to drop between 10 to 15 cm of snow by Sunday morning.
Environment Canada says the snow, which will be heavy at times, is expected to start this afternoon and will continue to fall into Sunday morning.
As a result, a winter weather travel advisory has been issued.
Ice road travel being discouraged
Travel on ice roads in the Kenora area is being discouraged as an Alberta Clipper descends on the region.
The storm is expected to drop between 10 to 15 cm of snow before Sunday morning, coupled with a south wind gusting to 50 km/h is reducing visibility on ice roads and local highways.
The administrator for the "Winter Road Update For Kenora Area" Facebook page, Leonard Boucha, says "travel on the ice road today and tonight is not recommended."
"Visibility is already very low and the storm is supposed to get worse before it gets better," added Boucha.
Collision near Clearwater Bay
Motorists traveling on Highway 17 near Clearwater Bay can expect delays this morning.
One lane is blocked due to a collision, which occurred around 11:10 a.m.
It's reported that the incident is roughly 5km west of Clearwater Bay and traffic control is in place.
Traffic is expected to move slowly and drivers are reminded to drive with caution and according to conditions.
Propane leak reported in Dryden, residents evacuated
A propane leak has been reported in Dryden, causing residents in the Scott Street area to evacuate.
The Dryden Fire Service and Dryden Police Service are both reported to be on scene and have shut down Heather Drive and Scott Street. All residents are asked to avoid this area for the time being.
As well, the Dryden Fire Service says Scott Street residents have been evacuated as a precaution.
Scott Street is located off of Boozhoo Avenue and Highway 601, which connects to Heather Street behind the Holiday Inn Express off of Government Street.
10 cm of snow expected to hit Kenora Tuesday
For the second time in as many weeks Environment Canada is calling for another Alberta Clipper to barrel through the Kenora area on Tuesday (February 15, 2022).
The agency says the clipper has made its way across the western Canadian prairies bringing with it snow, and strong wind gusts.
“You should be seeing some snow falling starting early to mid-afternoon today and it’s going to be sticking around through the night. It should be clear by mid-morning tomorrow completely. With that system looking at another 10 cm of snow,” Steven Flisfeder, Meteorologist said.
Snow removal Tuesday along Third Street S, delays expected
The City of Kenora is continuing to clear the snow from around the city today.
The city is advising residents that snow removal operations will take place along Third Street South from Matheson Street South to Seventh Avenue South on Tuesday, February 15, 2022.
There will be traffic control present during the blowing operations, and traffic delays can be expected.
The city said that signs will be posted in the snow removal area to indicate “No Parking” zones. Vehicles parked in those signed areas may be ticketed and towed at the owner’s expense.
REOPENED HWY 1 from Hadashville to Winnipeg

The TransCanada Highway is closed 13 km west of Hadashville to Winnipeg as an early morning blizzard hit southeastern Manitoba. At just after 8:00 a.m. this morning Environment Canada issued a blizzard warning for the area.
HWY 17 eastbound lane now open near Ontario/Manitoba border

As of around 7:30 a.m. on Friday (February 11, 2022) the disabled vehicle has been cleared, and the eastbound lane is reopened.

The eastbound lane on Highway 17 between Gundy Road and the Highway 673 junction is closed due to a disabled vehicle.
The Ministry of Transportation is asking motorists to please use caution while in the area.
Environment Canada has issued a winter weather travel advisory for the region with total snowfall amounts of 7 to 15 cm.
Collision at 658 and bypass intersection
UPDATE: The scene has been cleared
Motorists are advised to drive with caution as a collision has taken place at the intersection of Highway 17A and Highway 658.
According to Ontario 511, the west lane is partially blocked.
No injuries were reported.
OPP focusing on road safety through rough winter
Officers with the OPP say all residents should use extreme caution on local roadways, highways and ice roads as driving conditions are expected to be slick over the coming days.
The North West Region OPP adds officers will be focusing their efforts on traffic enforcement to uphold public safety, after noticing an increase in commercial and motor vehicles in the area.
