Weyburn mayor positive about interprovincial trade MOU

The provincial government announced the signing of a new memorandum of understanding between Premier Scott Moe and Manitoba Premier Wab Kinew on Monday. The agreement is aimed at improving interprovincial trade.  

While the agreement is less than 24 hours old, it is already being met with optimism by many in the Weyburn area. This includes Mayor Jeff Richards, who pointed out the agreement could have a number of benefits for the city’s businesses, as well as its economy.  

Weyburn Pharmasave plays role in successful provincial pharmacy pilot

The Pharmasave location on 3rd Street in Weyburn is one of 35 pharmacies across Saskatchewan taking part in what is being called a successful provincial pilot program. Since January, specially trained pharmacists at this location have been able to assess patients for suspected ear infections, providing timely advice and treatment. The program is being hailed as a success by the government due to the thousands of assessments that have been conducted across the province.  

Conditions have Weyburn area farmers positive midway through the season

“We’re looking at a possible bumper crop in the Weyburn area.” 

Dale Paslawski, who farms north of Weyburn, is one of the many farmers in the region who are feeling very positive about this year’s crop. With how this year is playing out in the southeast, it is hard for many not to be positive.

The organization has asked the federal agriculture and health ministers to “urgently” consider the request.

Genesis Fertilizers says it has hit ‘turning point’

Firm behind plan to build Saskatchewan fertilizer plant had to recently deal with former CEO’s financial problems

 It is full steam ahead at Genesis Fertilizers despite a tumultuous June, say proponents of the proposed Saskatchewan mega-project.

“It’s not a matter of if, it’s a matter of when we get this project off the ground,” said Terry Drabiuk, vice-president of business development with Genesis.

The project is a proposed $2.89 billion, farmer-owned nitrogen fertilizer plant to be built in Belle Plaine, Sask.

Assault with a weapon, sexual assault: WPS make two arrests in separate incidents

A woman was arrested in Weyburn last Sunday for assaulting a man with a weapon. 

Deputy Chief Shane St. John with the Weyburn Police Service said the incident occurred in a public area, and while police did not witness the assault, it had been caught on video.

"These parties don't live together or anything like that, they're just known to each other. I think it's one of those circumstances where minor disagreements build and build," he explained. "Social media has a part to play in that as people say a lot more things on social media than they do in person."

Agriculture Minister Daryl Harrison updates producer groups on AgriStability changes

Saskatchewan producers will benefit from major enhancements to the AgriStability program for the 2025 program year, aimed at strengthening support amid trade uncertainty and ongoing drought conditions.

Federal, provincial, and territorial agriculture ministers met virtually last week and agreed to increase the compensation rate from 80 per cent to 90 per cent, and doubled the maximum payment cap from $3 million to $6 million per operation.

Saskatchewan Agriculture Minister Daryl Harrison announced the changes yesterday on a farm at Rush Lake.

Greening, Jeffery Wayne

Jeffery Wayne Greening, late of Weyburn, SK passed away on July 19, 2025 at the age of 71 years.

He was predeceased by his parents, Benjamin and Jewel (nee: Lynam) Greening; sister, Sharon Marie Ables (nee: Greening); and nephew, Carry James “Butch” Ables.

Saskatoon takes both games in doubleheader against Beavers

The Weyburn Beavers entertained the Saskatoon Berries for a doubleheader Monday night. The first game of the day was a make-up game, after a thunderstorm cancelled Sunday’s game at Tom Laing Park. The second game was the Red Wings Appreciation Game, during which the Beavers wore special jerseys that paid homage to the storied SJHL franchise.  

The Berries, though, would be the ones coming out on top. The first game was a 9-2 win, and the nightcap saw Saskatoon win 14-2.

Nominees must be currently active in the region and recognized for their leadership, innovation, and impact on the industry.
