The weekends immediately prior to Remembrance Day are invariably busy ones in high school athletics. This year, November 8-9 will see a range of Saskatchewan High School Athletic Association events.   

The Humboldt Broncos Memorial Committee, and the City of Humboldt as fund holders for the Committee, are steadily moving forward with plans for the memorial site on Highway 35.  

At its regular meeting on Monday night, City Council heard how challenges with key agencies, including the Ministry of Highways, CN Rail and SaskPower, have led to delays in starting work on the Memorial Site.  

It’s been 40 years of STARS in the air saving lives, and the celebration of that important anniversary begins as STARS launches its 32nd annual STARS Calendar.  

For this pivotal year, the STARS Calendar will take a bit of a retrospective look at key medical crews and Very Important Patients (VIPs) from previous calendars with updates.  

STARS’ partnership with Viterra has been an important one, helping the organization to raise over $6 million with its calendar campaigns.  

The province is warning consumers about a handful of companies that are involved in financial transactions that may not be wholly legitimate.

The Financial and Consumer Affairs Authority of Saskatchewan sent out notices on four companies - Capitals Gain, AmCan, Lova Crypto, and CGWise.

The hallowed homage to all things cherry is coming up on Sunday.  Organizers Jodi Tremel says that much of the format remains similar to previous years, and the quality of the talent for the day, the local artisans and the cherry-based cuisine remains top notch.  

Manitou Beach’s own literary festival is set to make a return on Friday and Saturday. This year’s edition of Wonder of Words (WOW) sees another great lineup of writers and reading performances, along with some special guests and the always popular evening musical entertainment.  

This year, the host Little Manitou Art Gallery and its owner Sarah McKen have a special start to the event thanks to the support of another Manitou Beach enterprise. 

Nearly 200 public libraries in the province are set to see significant boosts to their in-house Internet speeds. A release from the province outlines the work being done on existing Community Net (CNet) fibre networks, allowing for a minimum speed of 50 megabit per second (Mbps) providing better access and more research tools for library users.  

Humboldt's Jacob Wassermann has been named to Team Canada in PR1 men's singles rowing for the upcoming Paralympics in Paris, France.

Wassermann played for the SJHL's Humboldt Broncos and was on the team's bus when it crashed on April 6, 2018. Left paralyzed, he staged a remarkable spirit through his recovery, first taking up competitive wakeboarding and excelling at the sport.

The Saskatchewan Teachers’ Federation and the provincial Government Trustee Bargaining team once again reached an impasse in their lengthy contract negotiations. This leads to another round of work to rule sanctions beginning in schools on Monday. 

Prairie Agricultural Machinery Institute (PAMI), with head offices in Humboldt, has received $5 million in funding over five years following an announcement on May 14 by federal Agriculture and Agri-Food Minister Lawrence MacAulay and Saskatchewan Agriculture Minister David Marit.
