Weyburn Red Wings prepare for playoffs after regular season finale loss

The Richardson Pioneer Weyburn Red Wings entered Saturday night's game against the Estevan Bruins with the 6th seed in the SJHL playoffs secured. Weyburn also had the chance to sweep the season series with their Highway 39 rivals, who they shut out 4-0 the night before. 

The game would be a back-and-forth battle between two teams, with pride on the line for both teams. It would take a goal late in the third period to be the difference, with Estevan coming out on top 5-4. 

Mitchell stymies Bruins as Red Wings pick up win in Estevan

Dazza Mitchell made 33 saves for his third shutout of the season as the Richardson Pioneer Weyburn Red Wings skated to a 4-0 win over the Estevan Bruins Friday night to kick off the final weekend of the SJHL's regular season. The win would also secure 6th place overall for the Red Wings, meaning they will face either the Humboldt Broncos or Battlefords North Stars in the first round of the playoffs. 

Red Wings' bid for division lead falters against Millionaires

The Richardson Pioneer Weyburn Red Wings entered the weekend with a playoff berth secured. They were hoping they could close the gap with the Melville millionaires for 1st in the Viterra Division, or possibly pass them into the top spot. However, after two tight games against Melville in a crucial home-and-home series, Weyburn found themselves looking to secure the 6th overall seed, as the Millionaires took both of the games.

Red Wings soar: Weyburn is playoff bound with win over Hounds

For the second season in a row under head coach Cody Mapes, the Richardson Pioneer Weyburn Red Wings are off to the postseason. The Wings skated to a 4-2 win over the Notre Dame Hounds at Crescent Point Place Tuesday night to secure a playoff berth, and now, will look to move up the standings in the remaining five games this season. 

The Red Wings were led by Cade Meiklejohn and Jaxson Ruthven, who finished with a goal and an assist each, and Dazza Mitchell made 39 saves and added an assist on the final goal of the night. 

Playoff push: Red Wings on fire as regular season nears end

The Richardson Pioneer Weyburn Red Wings are entering the final two weeks of the regular season as the hottest team in the SJHL. They have won their past five games, outscoring their opponents 20-9 in that stretch. The Red Wings have also not lost in regulation since February 9th, when the Flin Flon Bombers beat the Wings at Crescent Point Place 4-2.  

Monette's OT heroics lift Weyburn Red Wings past Nipawin

Colin Doherty scored his first goal in the SJHL, and Max Monette scored in overtime, as the Richardson Pioneer Weyburn Red Wings picked up a 5-4 win over the Nipawin Hawks Wednesday night. With the win, the Red Wings moved within two points of the Estevan Bruins for second in the Viterra Division with two games in hand. Weyburn is also three points back of the Kindersley Klippers for sixth place in the overall standings with four games in hand.  

Weyburn Red Wings secure decisive win on Family Day

Five different players found the back of the net, and Dazza Mitchell stopped 36 shots as the Richardson Pioneer Weyburn Red Wings picked up a decisive win over the Melville Millionaires Monday. In the Family Day matinee game, the Red Wings came away with a 5-0 win over their Viterra Division rivals.

Weyburn now trails Estevan by four points for second in the division, and seventh overall, and are just five points back of Melville for first in the division with 10 games left to play this season. 

Hodson shines, but Red Wings lose shootout to Mustangs

When it comes to a shootout, the Richardson Pioneer Weyburn Red Wings haven't had the best of luck. They have had eleven games go to extra time this season and seven of those to a shootout. The Red Wings have yet to lose a game in overtime, but when it comes to the shootout, they have come out on the winning side just once this year. 

Weyburn Red Wings drop nail-biter to Melfort Mustangs

The Richardson Pioneer Weyburn Red Wings entered Tuesday night's game looking to pick up two crucial points in the SJHL playoff race as the Melfort Mustangs came to Crescent Point Place. The Mustangs, though, had different plans. They held onto a lead coming out of the first period for a 6-5 victory. 

The first period of the game would see the two teams combine for eight goals, with Melfort taking a 5-3 lead. Brayden Westerlund from the Mustangs got the scoring started just 1:20 into the game, but Weyburn answered just 20 seconds later.
