Federal workers to strike Wednesday if union, government don't reach deal by Tuesday
The country's largest federal public service union says if a deal isn't reached with the federal government by 9 p.m. EDT on Tuesday, it will launch a strike this Wednesday.
The Public Service Alliance of Canada says some 155,000 employees are prepared to walk off the job, including 35,000 workers from the Canada Revenue Agency.
Mediated contract negotiations between the union and the Treasury Board continued over the weekend in what the union described as the government's final chance to reach a deal.
Residential property taxes could be on the rise in Fort Saskatchewan
Property values across Fort Saskatchewan are up, which could mean higher property taxes.
The city recently underwent its annual process of evaluating property values, with a report on the findings being presented to council last week.
"We had assessment growth within residential [homes]," said Shannon Andruchow, the manager of budget and financial planning for Fort Saskatchewan.
"The total growth was $123 million."
The large increase might seem a bit surprising, but Andruchow says inflation had a big influence on the sharp rise.

Maschmeyer didn't see action in the gold medal game. Despite that, she delivered when she got the chance to play in the tournament.

Oats struggle in competitive animal feed market
Oats are struggling right now in what's looking to be a competitive animal feed market.
That's the outlook being given by Neil Townsend, Senior Market Analyst at FarmLink Marketing Solutions.
"It's very heavy right now. That being said, I would say that based on a historical five-year average of what the export demand has been, things might improve a little bit toward the second part of next year. Oats will also pay attention to what's happening in the corn and other feed grain markets, so it's not a completely isolated situation."
