The City of Fort Saskatchewan has announced an Easter scavenger hunt.

This free event takes place at the Fort Heritage Precinct on April 2 starting a 1 p.m. 

The event involves a search for hidden Easter artwork, where residents can win prizes, create Easter-themed crafts, and even enjoy some tasty treats.

Stephanie Holt, programs coordinator with the precinct, says that pre-registration is recommended, but not required.

Strathcona County RCMP is asking for the public's help in finding a suspect in a Sherwood Park hit-and-run. 

Police say that on March 13, just before 10 a.m., they received a report of a collision on the eastbound lanes of the Sherwood Park Freeway and 34 Street. 

The crash involved an undisclosed vehicle, a two-axle flat-deck truck, and a third unknown vehicle. The driver of one of the vehicles was transported to hospital with non-life-threatening injuries. 

Fort Saskatchewan RCMP is asking for the public's help in identifying a hit-and-run suspect.

On Tuesday (Mar. 21) morning, just after 8 a.m., a truck driving over the speed limit ran a red light which caused a crash at the intersection of Highway 21 and 94 Street.

Police say the vehicle fled the scene after the crash.

The vehicle is described as an older model black Chevrolet/GMC four-door truck. The truck has a red tidy tank in the back with large numbers labelled 1202. 

The Sherwood Park Crusaders continue their march in the AJHL playoffs. 

They will open their second-round series against a powerhouse Spruce Grove Saints team tonight. 

It's a quick turnaround for the team, as they are coming off an emotional seven-game series win against the Fort Mac Oil Barons on Tuesday (Mar. 22). 

The pomp and circumstance of a presidential visit will give way today to a series of talks about green energy, migration and Haiti, as U.S. President Joe Biden heads to Parliament Hill.

Prime Minister Justin Trudeau is scheduled to greet Biden late Friday morning for a welcoming ceremony at West Block.

Dignitaries from the House of Commons and Senate, including the Speakers from each chamber and the leaders of each elected party and most Senate groups, are set to join them.

Biden and Trudeau plan to then have a bilateral meeting in the Prime Minister’s Office.

The West River's Edge Skating Loop is closed until next winter.

On Thursday (Mar. 23) morning, signs were put up around the skating loop marking that the natural rink is closed for the season.

Keith Hart, an operator with the City of Fort Saskatchewan, says many factors come into play when checking if the ice is safe to skate on.

During a tour of the Canada Agriculture and Food Museum in Ottawa, Agriculture and Agri-Food Minister, Marie-Claude Bibeau, announced new funding for Agriculture in the Classroom Canada of up to $953,260 over two years.

The program will use that money to focus on the Agricommunication program, a three-year, up to $8-million federal initiative that will focus specifically on supporting activities that increase appreciation and pride in the contributions of farmers and the food industry and enhance public trust.

A new school is coming to Gibbons.

Sturgeon Public Schools has confirmed that a school will be coming to the town of Gibbons at some point in the future.

“The Board of Trustees has entered into a collaborative partnership with the Town of Gibbons to plan, develop and construct a school and community facilities on new land space with the intention of developing shared spaces," said Shawna Warren, superintendent with Sturgeon Public Schools. "We are excited and proud to collaborate with the Town of Gibbons to build a strong community that we all can be proud of.”

A few select students at Salisbury Composite will be making the trek across the pond. 

12 students from the school will embark on a two-week expedition to Germany for spring break as part of an international exchange program. 

"The trip is the second part of an international exchange program, where students from both countries have the chance to apply their language skills and experience the culture of their counterparts in an immersive setting," said Elk Island Public School (EIPS) in a release. 

An impaired driver reportedly collided with the Sherwood Park Arena during a Crusaders playoff game earlier this month. 

On March 11, at about 7:40 p.m., Strathcona County RCMP say they received a report about a vehicle crashing into the east side of the building. 

"The lone female driver of the vehicle did not sustain any injuries," said Constable Chantelle Kelly. 

There were about 869 people inside the building watching the hockey game at the time of the crash. No injuries to bystanders were reported.
