Buttar talks first place race in PBR Canada standings

Dakota Buttar is currently first place in the PBR Canada National Standings, but at the moment he has his eyes on the prize at the Calgary Stampede getting set to compete in Pool C of the bull riding competition in the "The Greatest Outdoor Show on Earth".

Back in June, Buttar grew his first-place lead with strong performances at both the PBR Ottawa Classic and PBR London Classic cup series events. After that was a short break from PBR competition for some other pro rodeo dates before a return to the Canadian circuit.

Killarney Shamrocks welcoming alumni from all over back for golf tournament

The Killarney Lakeside Golf Course will be the host site for the inaugural Killarney Shamrocks Alumni Golf Tournament this upcoming weekend.

One of the organizers, Tyler Shiels, couldn't be more excited for what the weekend will bring. "It's the first ever Killarney Shamrocks alumni golf event and it'll be at the Killarney Lakeside Golf Course," he explains with a big smile. "It starts at 12:00 p.m. on Saturday."

U13 Storm go undefeated, capture gold at recent tournament

It was a magical run for the U13 Winkler Storm as they blew away the competition at their most recent tournament, winning a total of seven games before dispatching Hamiota in the finals to take home the gold.

"We're made up of girls from our two Winkler teams," head coach Dan Giesbrecht explains. "We have tryouts for provincials for those girls that want to try out. We pick our team, then we practice sometimes during the season, and we entered one tournament in Steinbach. After our league playdowns are done, we focus and we enter the provincials."

U13 Eastman Wildcats survive and thrive at Peppers Classic

It wasn't an ideal start, but the U13 Wildcats never quite, battling right to the end, claiming victory in the silver bracket of the Peppers Classic in Mankato, Minnesota.

"It's super fun," coach Jason Plett says when looking back over the year to this point. "They're definitely getting closer as a team every game and every practice. There have been highs and lows during games, being it's the U13 age, but it's awesome to see how they pick each other up, work through those tough times and getting better."

Prairie Queens make royal entrance into Manitoba Women's Slow Pitch League

A new powerhouse in Manitoba's women's slow pitch is making waves both on and off the diamond. The Prairie Queens, a competitive slow pitch team led by sisters Melora Barton and Ashley Ozunko, recently clinched the provincial title with a perfect 6-0 record, a remarkable achievement for a team in its very first season.

The idea for the team started as a casual conversation between the sisters, who had been subbing with other women's teams.

Stingrays results in Melfort

Two Swift Current Stingrays swimmers picked up age group medals at the Melfort Marlins swim meet over the weekend.

Lincoln Moffit won gold in the 11 & 12-year-old boys. 

Jett Schafer earned bronze in the 9 & 10-year-old boys category.

57's blown out in Regina

The Swift Current 57's left 13 runners on base in a 17-1 loss to Regina.

Ethan Bailey went 2 for 3 in the game for Swift Current.

Regina pulled ahead 11-0 after the 2nd inning.

The 57's now have a day off to regroup before heading to Regina again on Thursday night.

Swift Current isn't home until July 14th when they host Medicine Hat. 

 

Empey, McCleary & King ink new AHL deals

Two former Swift Current Broncos have signed contracts with the American Hockey League's Toronto Marlies.

Swift Current native Ryan McCleary and fellow former Bronco Ben King both signed one-year AHL deals with the Marlies.

McCleary, a defenceman, spent last season with Cincinnati in the ECHL. He put up 12 points over 69 games.

He played the final season of his four-year WHL career with the Broncos.

Sonic rained out of tournament

The Swift Current U17 Sonic had two wins and a loss when the Southeast Supernovas softball tournament in Carlyle got rained out.

They beat Estevan 14-0, the Saskatoon Selects Outlaws 12-1, and lost 6-3 to the Twin City Angels.

Swift Current led Hamiota 1-0 in the semifinal when the event got rained out.

They play a doubleheader in Moose Jaw tonight against Wood River U19 and the Moose Jaw U17A Ice.
