Grizzlies U13 capture league cup in stunning comeback

The Bow Valley Grizzlies U13 rugby team capped off a remarkable season with a dramatic 43–33 comeback win to capture the 2025 league cup Wednesday night at the Calgary Rugby Union.

Early on, the Grizzlies appeared outmatched by a strong Calgary Rams/Canucks side. But the young squad rallied behind their fiery on-field chant — "Ten feet tall and ten feet wide" — and responded with one of the most memorable comebacks in local youth rugby.

Winnipeg Jets announce pre-season schedule

In less than three months, NHL hockey will be back at Canada Life Centre. 

On Thursday, the reigning Presidents' Trophy-winning Winnipeg Jets released the 2025 pre-season schedule. 

The six games kick off on home ice against the Minnesota Wild on Sunday, September 21 at 4 p.m., followed by the visiting Edmonton Oilers on Tuesday, September 23 at 7 p.m.

Regina does Wolverines a favour

Sometimes you need a little help from a rival.

The Regina Chaos did the Swift Current Wolverines in junior Prairie Gold Lacrosse League action last night.

Avery Sewell, Caleb Singer-Scherle, and Kenton Appel each had hat tricks in a 14-3 Regina win over the Saskatoon Swat.

Saskatoon is 3 points behind Swift Current for the third and final playoff spot in the league.

The Wolverines have already played their final regular season games, while Saskatoon still has two more games in hand.

Mistelbacher commits to Maine

Former Swift Current Bronco Luke Mistelbacher has determined his next destination.

He committed to the University of Maine for the 2026-27 hockey season.

Swift Current traded Mistelbacher to Brandon before the WHL Draft.

The Steinbach native had 42 goals and 51 assists in 67 games for the Broncos last season.

Swift Current dealt Mistelbacher and Grayson Burzynski to the Brandon Wheat Kings for five draft picks and forward Alex Letourneau.

He joined the Broncos as an undrafted free agent and spent three seasons with Swift Current.

Come cheer on Cochrane’s young soccer stars

Cochrane Wolves FC is inviting the community to come out and support local youth athletes during a special home event this Saturday, June 28.

Five of the club’s competitive teams—including four of its top-tier squads—will be in action at Rangers Field, located at the corner of Highway 22 and George Fox Trail. Games run from 9 a.m. to 1:15 p.m. against visiting teams from Calgary.

Organizers say it’s a chance for residents to cheer on young soccer players from Cochrane and learn more about the club’s growing range of programs.

Sports Round-Up: Friday, June 27

The Moose Jaw Miller Express played a pair of games in Fort MacMurray yesterday. It got off to a rocky start with a 3–1 loss to the Energy City Cactus Rats, but things turned around when they snapped their five-game losing skid with a 3–0 shutout of the Fort Mac Giants in the late game.

The Millers will be back in action against the Giants this evening at 7.

Over to the MLB, the Toronto Blue Jays closed their series in Cleveland with a 6–0 win over the Guardians. They're in Boston this afternoon to start their weekend set against the Red Sox. Game time is 5:10.

Hammerheads bring home more medals from two events

The Humboldt Hammerheads enjoyed a successful weekend at a pair of swim meets.  

On Saturday, three swimmers from the Hammerheads competed at the Mintenko Summerfest Swim Meet in Moose Jaw with each swimmer leaving the event with a medal.  

The following day, 34 swimmers from the Hammerheads travelled to Regina and it was another strong showing for the Hammerheads. Swimmers that finished on the podium included:
