Sports Round-Up: Monday, September 16

They finished the pre-season on a high note!

The Moose Jaw Warriors split a weekend home 'n home with Swift Current, dropping an 8-2 decision Friday but bouncing back for a 4-2 win on home ice Saturday.

The WHL regular season starts this weekend with the Warriors in Brandon to play the Wheat Kings Friday and the home opener Saturday vs. Prince Albert at the Moose Jaw Events Centre.

Sports Update - Monday, September 16th

The Virden Oil Capitals won their pre-season finale Sunday night at Tundra Oil & Gas Place. Ethan Guthrie scored the only goal of the shootout in round 13 to lift Virden past the Portage Terriers 4-3. Maxx Hamelin, Tyson Draper and Noel Englot found the back of the net in regulation for the Oil Capitals. Nolan Nenow scored his second goal of the game on the power play with 10 seconds left in the third period for the Terriers to force overtime. Virden netminder Nikolas Trakakis made 36 saves in regulation and overtime and then stopped all 13 shots he faced in the shootout.

Sports Update - Monday, September 16th

Niverville Force SC wrapped up their regular season schedule Sunday night. Parker Davis, Marius Enns and Jaden Giesbrecht did the goal scoring as Niverville defeated Lucania United FC 3-1. Force SC finished with an 8-6-4 record in the Manitoba Major Soccer League's 1st Division and will meet Grant Park SC in the quarterfinals on Thursday at Shaughnessy Park in Winnipeg. 

Huge win on road for Bow Valley Bobcats

The Bow Valley Bobcats have notched their first win of the season with a huge 24-3 win over the Chestermere Lakers, Sept. 13.

"It's an all-around team win," says Bobcats head coach Dustin Paul.  "We played well on all three sides of the ball and I'm happy with how we performed on Friday. It was kind of like we had the wake-up call that we needed, and we showed up and played how we know we can play."

West Central Volleyball Teams Shine at Weekend Tournaments

West Central Saskatchewan volleyball teams delivered impressive performances over the weekend, securing top spots in various tournaments across the province.

The Biggar Blazers Senior Girls put on a strong showing in the Kerrobert tournament, finishing in second place after a hard-fought series of matches. Their determination and teamwork stood out, but they fell just short of clinching the top spot in a competitive final round.
