Estevan Mermaids earn multiple top finishes at provincials
The Estevan Mermaids Artistic Swimming Club brought home a wave of medals and top-10 finishes from a recent prairie competition, with athletes excelling in both individual and team events across multiple age categories.
In the 10U Limited category, Ciara Schell finished second, while Tylee Picton placed seventh and Laikynn Shier took ninth. In 12U Limited figures, Sophia Vibe came in sixth, Ella Biette was seventh, while Jillianne Velasquez, Ava Story and Brooklyn Saxon placed 15th, 17th and 19th, respectively.

Nash Wassing can now add Teck Cup champion to his growing list of accomplishments.
Wassing, originally from Strathmore, won the Kootenay International Junior Hockey League (KIJHL) Teck Cup title with his team, the Grand Forks Border Bruins.
Red Wings are off to the SJHL Finals
Josh Sale tipped a point shot from Dallen Oxelgren just over five minutes into overtime to give the Richardson Pioneer Weyburn Red Wings a berth in the SJHL finals. The goal gave the Red Wings a 3-2 win in the game and a 4-2 win in the series over the Flin Flon Bombers.
"I just saw the shot coming and realized I probably needed to deflect it," Sale said of the series-winning goal. "I deflected it in, and I kind of blacked out for a second, then realized we won. It's kind of the best feeling in the world."

Jayme Minor is one of them.
His passion for the team started when he was younger and his dad would take him to games.
"Theoren Fleury was my favourite player back then," said Minor.
He remembers 2004 when the Flames were in the Stanley Cup final against the Tampa Bay Lightning. The team allowed fans to come inside to watch the game at the Saddledome on the big screen.
That's when the trumpet made an appearance.

Peyton Kettles is ranked 39th among North American skaters, Luke Mistelbacher comes it at 93rd, Josh McGregor at 111th, and Grayson Burzynski at 191st.
Former Broncos forward Dawson Gerwing is ranked 98th.

Estevan Extreme 13U Girls finish strong at volleyball provincials
The Estevan Extreme 13U Girls wrapped up their volleyball season this past weekend with a strong showing at the Volleyball Saskatchewan Provincials in Regina.
Competing in Division 1—the highest tier of play—the team faced off against some of the top 13U teams from across the province and held their own every step of the way.
Pool play began with back-to-back three-set battles against Regina Summit Red and the CVVC Aces. Though the Extreme came up just short in both matches, they bounced back with a confident straight-set win over Blitz Thunder.

Former Richardson Pioneer Weyburn Red Wings captain Braden Birnie has just finished his junior year with the University of Alaska-Fairbanks Nanooks. While the Nanooks fell short of reaching the Frozen Four, Birnie, who is the captain of the hockey team, said the 2024–25 campaign was filled with growth and valuable experience.
