Prairie grit and hometown hustle in the pipeline for Saskatchewan Roughriders
Two west-central Saskatchewan born players, Eatonia's John Stevens on the defensive line and Rosetown's Daniel Wiebe at receiver, managed to make their fair share of headlines this spring during training camp with the Saskatchewan Roughriders.
During our chat with Roughriders offensive lineman Logan Ferland last week, he gave his thoughts on the local talent strictly from their work on the practice field.
Multiple events hitting Estevan baseball diamonds this weekend
Estevan will play host to some finals this weekend as baseball teams descend on the diamonds here in town. The games will host a few minor leagues with teams coming from across the southeast.
Estevan Minor Baseball President Mel Murray talks about the upcoming games this weekend.
"The Moose Mountain League has their wrap-up this weekend, and Estevan is hosting the 18U over at Lynn Prime Park. We're also hosting the 11U down at Cactus Park."
The 11U tournament will feature the Estevan Minor Baseball League teams as they go head-to-head.

Cochrane’s Ty Mueller helps push Abbotsford towards Calder Cup
The Abbotsford Canucks are on the brink of making franchise history.
They defeated the Charlotte Checkers 3-2 on Thursday night to take a 3-1 lead in the American Hockey League (AHL) championship series. With the win, the Canucks are now one victory away from claiming their first-ever Calder Cup.
Jonathan Lekkerimaki led the offence with two goals. Centre Ty Mueller of Cochrane assisted on both, including the eventual winner. Arshdeep Bains added another goal, while goaltender Arturs Silovs stopped 32 shots to secure the win.
Rage look to rebound and gain ground in late RMLL playoff push
The Rocky View Rage Jr. B T2 lacrosse team settled the score with the Spurs last weekend and aspires to do the same against the Axemen tonight in RMLL action.
The Rage are coming off a key 13-7 win over the Foothills Spur and will be aiming to carry that momentum into tonight's home matchup at Totem One.
Game time is 8 p.m.

In what turned out to be a rollercoaster of a season, 16-year-old goaltender Delaney Dreger played regularly for the Lorette Comets but also ended up in the crease for nine different teams throughout the year.
Miller Express grab another win from 57's
Casey Prychak went 2 for 3 with 2 RBIs, but the Swift Current 57's fell 10-4 to the Moose Jaw Miller Express last night.
Jose Ayala went 1 for 2 with a walk, 2 runs scored and an RBI for Swift Current.
Moose Jaw has now won four games in a row, while the 57's have dropped four in a row.
The two teams will play each other for the sixth time in eight days when Swift Current visits Moose Jaw tonight.
Predators help Wolverines with win over Swat
A little help from the Prince Albert Predators for the Swift Current Wolverines.
Swift Current sits three points ahead of the Saskatoon Swat for the final playoff spot in the junior Prairie Gold Lacrosse League.
The Wolverines have already played their final regular season game, while the Swat had four games in hand.
They used one of those games in hand in an 11-7 loss to Prince Albert last night.
Saskatoon still has to play Weyburn on Sunday, Regina on June 25th, and Prince Albert again on July 2nd.
Red Deer volleyball team honoured with Mayor’s Recognition Award
A Red Deer volleyball team has received a Mayor’s Recognition Award following a spectacular season.
The senior boys’ volleyball team from Lindsay Thurber Comprehensive High School won the 4A provincial championship this year and was nominated for the honour by their principal.
The Lindsay Thurber Raiders were presented with the award during a ceremony on Wednesday night.
Head coach Travis Czainski said the team enjoyed one last celebration together.
