Anyone for Tennis?

If you are, you'll need to wait until May.

The Town of High River will be working on the courts throughout April.

They need to wash the courts, apply crack filler to any surface cracks and install the nets.

Once it's complete, the High River Tennis Club is looking to hit the courts on Friday, May 2.

The windscreens won't be installed until the following week, and the outdoor port-a-potty will open that same week.

Swift Current Broncos General Manager Chad Leslie is proud and excited to see four of their players on the final rankings for NHL Central Scouting ahead of the 2025 NHL Draft.

"It's exciting for sure," Leslie said. "I'm happy for the guys that have been identified, and it just speaks to the quality of kids they are. The guys that are on the list that are in their second or third year of eligibility it just speaks to their development. I'm very happy for them."

There will be some southwest Saskatchewan content in the Saskatchewan Junior Hockey League Championship Series.

Swift Current's Ryder Rommelaere is excited to be part of a Weyburn Red Wings team that upset Flin Flon to advance into the final.

"It's an unreal feeling, honestly," he said. "Getting there with the team and not only being there myself but being there with the group of guys is just such a great feeling. Not something you can just describe really easily, but it's I'm very excited."

Former Swift Current Broncos Captain Adam Lowry is the Winnipeg Jets' nominee for the 2024-25 King Clancy Memorial Trophy.

The award is presented “to the player who best exemplifies leadership qualities on and off the ice and has made a noteworthy humanitarian contribution in his community.”

Teams chose their own representative, while the winner is chosen by a selection committee consisting of NHL Commissioner Gary Bettman, former winners of the King Clancy Memorial Trophy and the historic NHL Foundation Player Award.

The Portland Winterhawks are making a series of it in the WHL playoffs.

They beat top-seeded Everett 3-1 last night and now trail the second round best-of-seven series 2-1.

Hudson and Griffin Darby of Swift Current are on the roster for Portland.

Hudson had three shots in the win.

Game 4 is set for tonight in Portland.

Meanwhile, Calgary beat Lethbridge 5-3 but trails the Hurricanes 2-1 in their series. Former Bronco Connor Hvidston had an assist for Calgary.

Springtime isn't stopping dedicated hockey players off the ice. With league and provincial play ending in March, select players who advanced through their respective Sask First competitions have been on the ice in Hockey Saskatchewan garb to start April, club team spring hockey also firing up as well. 

A junior hockey star from West Central is continuing to gain attention from pro scouts. 

Macklin native Cole Reschny was ranked the #25 skater in North America as NHL Central Scouting unveiled their final list of rankings prior to the 2025 NHL Draft on Tuesday.

Mandy Alexander, the Rec Director for Killarney and Turtle Mountain, is beyond thrilled to offer some terrific programs that invite all ages to be a part of.

The Toronto Maple Leafs scored four unanswered goals against the host Buffalo Sabres last night, winning the NHL's Atlantic Division for the first time. The Leafs will go on to play the Ottawa Senators in the opening round of the playoffs.

Speaking of the Senators, they suffered a 4–3 loss thanks to a goal under a minute into overtime by the visiting Chicago Blackhawks' Frank Nay-Zahr.

HCAA Junior Badminton Pre-District Championships concluded on Tuesday. 

Boys and Girls Doubles competition took place in Middle Lake, Watson, Quill Lake, Imperial and Raymore. 

Successful qualifiers advance to the District Championships in Foam Lake on Saturday May 3.
