Dazza Mitchell Commits to NCAA DIV III at the University of Dubuque

The Humboldt Broncos and the City of Humboldt are proud to announce that Dazza Mitchell has committed to the University of Dubuque and will continue his hockey and academic career at the NCAA DIV III Level as a member of the Spartans for the 2025-26 season.

Dazza was acquired as a 20-year-old by the Broncos prior to the 2025 trade deadline, where he culminated an incredibly accomplished SJHL career with a 9-5-1-2 record with a “dazzling” .932 SV% as a Bronco.

Mistelbacher signs ATO with Wild

After running wild on the score sheet, Swift Current Broncos forward Luke Mistelbacher has signed an amateur tryout contract with the Iowa Wild of the American Hockey League.

He will join Iowa immediately.

The Steinbach native put up 42 goals and 51 assists to lead the Broncos this season. 

Mistelbacher finished 8th in Western Hockey League scoring.

The Wild are the American League Affiliate of the Minnesota Wild in the National Hockey League.

Swift Current badminton players advance to districts

Local athletes were in Gull Lake this past weekend competing in the North Sectional Badminton Playoff. 

Over a dozen SCCHS athletes brought home medals and will be moving on in the season. 

Swift Current's Michael Liu secured first place in boys singles, while Hannah Riego came out first in girls singles, and Tinara Bowditch took silver in girls singles.

Agra Risk Wheatland Kings announce $10,000 donation for dressing room upgrades

This past weekend, the Agra Risk Wheatland Kings celebrated a historic season.

At the awards ceremony, Kings General Manager Cody Holdaway announced upcoming changes to the dressing room.

Kidco Construction is giving the Kings $10,000 to upgrade the locker room.

According to Holdway, before the needed renovations the locker room was inherited from the former AA Bisons team.

Habs bring home U13A championship banner

Another championship is set to be hung at the HyLife Centre in La Broquerie as the U13A team won their final game of the year to bring home special memories along with a banner.

"It's very exciting, what a great accomplishment," Head Coach Gerard Tetrault said proudly. "We knew coming into the season that we had a great team, great potential, very young but a lot of talent on top of heart and soul. We knew good things could happen but we were hoping to be there at the end. Things lined up perfectly for us to achieve the ultimate objective, which was to bring home the banner."

Moose Jaw's Koseikan Judo Club earned the title of provincial champions for the 2nd straight year on the weekend.

The local club hosted provincials with 219 athletes participating.

Cochrane karate athletes shine at national championships

Athletes from Ippon Karate Dojo returned home to Cochrane with a string of podium finishes following standout performances at the Karate Canada National Championships, held April 3–6 at the Richmond (B.C.) Olympic Oval.

The tournament took on added significance for the dojo as it marks 20 years of fostering excellence in both traditional and competitive karate.

Bedrocks Bowlers strike gold in first-ever home tournament

The Bedrock Bowlers came out on top Sunday in their debut bowling tournament, hosting teams from the Foothills and Olds chapters.

The Bow Valley Special Olympics chapter's bowling team had the highest pins-over-average score of the day, clinching the home tournament's trophy.

Ethan Mawson had the men's high double score, Brock Jesse the men's high single, and Robert Paton, the men's most pins overage single.
