Heck's sacrifice fly gives Beavers walk-off win over Medicine Hat
In a tight game that went down to the wire, the Weyburn Beavers edged out the visiting Medicine Hat Mavericks 3-2 in walk-off fashion Tuesday night at Tom Laing Park.
Ian Heck starred on both sides of the ball, turning in six dominant innings on the mound and later driving in the winning run with a sacrifice fly in the bottom of the ninth. Heck struck out 10 and allowed just one unearned run, holding the Mavericks in check and giving his team a chance to come back late.
Estevan swimmers collect medals despite tough weather and schedule
The Estevan Golden Eels had a successful and challenging weekend competing in back-to-back swim meets in Swift Current and Regina.
At the Swift Current meet, despite rainy weather, the team delivered strong performances across multiple events. Highlights included:

Adalyn Christopherson won first place in the Girls 13-14 Meter Medley Relay with a time of 1:24.62 and second place in the 100 Meter Free Relay.

Daniel Klotz-Dedora representing Canada at world vaulting championship
World-class horse vaulting athlete Daniel Klotz-Dedora is preparing to depart for Austria ahead of his third appearance as a member of Team Canada at the FEI Junior Vaulting World Championship.
The 18-year-old received official word of his selection late last week from Equestrian Canada.
“We are excited to have you representing Canada again on the world stage and look forward to supporting you through the final preparations,” reads a letter from the organization.
Cochrane football players named to three Alberta teams
Cochrane football players will suit up for three Alberta teams this summer following an extensive selection process by Football Alberta.
Cochrane Cobra Tyler Clazie has been named to the receiving corps of Alberta’s U18 squad for the Football Canada Cup. Fellow Cobra Evan Samoleski also made the team as a defensive back but is sidelined by injury.
Three other Cobras were in the running after advancing to the Top 100 camp held in Red Deer in May.

Altona's Ryan Gerbrandt all about community as a Bison ball player and fire fighter
Veteran ball player Ryan Gerbrandt has represented the Altona Bisons on the diamond for years and recently, he also took his skills as a fire fighter up north to help people in need.
Looking back over the year so far, Gerbrandt says there are positives but also room to grow. "We've got a good group of core guys out and we're also getting younger every year, which is really exciting to see the program continue on. We feel that the team has allowed a few wins to slip from our grasp a little bit, but overall, we're starting to go in the right direction."
Pistons acquire Gradt from Blues; "I can't wait for the season to start"

Lind extended by Dallas
Shaunavon's Kole Lind is staying in the Lone Star State.
The 26-year-old signed a one-year, two-way contract extension with the Dallas Stars.
He would earn $775,000 at the NHL level or $475,000 in the American Hockey League.
Lind scored 23 goals and had 29 assists in 71 regular-season games with the AHL's Texas Stars.
He added 8 goals and 7 assists in 14 AHL playoff games.
Lind has played in 31 career NHL games for Seattle and Vancouver.
WHL releases 2025-26 schedule

The WHL released their pre-season and regular season schedules today.
Swift Current opens their season Friday, September 19th at home against the Regina Pats.
The Broncos then welcome the defending WHL Champion Medicine Hat Tigers for a playoff re-match on September 26th.
Swift Current makes their six-game U.S. Division road swing from November 26th through December 5th.
They have a seven-game homestand from January 17th to February 6th.
