Okotoks Dawgs get first win of the season at afternoon matinee
The Okotoks Dawgs picked up their first win of the WCBL season on Sunday afternoon.
The 2 p.m. game time versus the Lethbridge Bulls filled the stands, and the Dawgs came through with a 10-7 win.
The Dawgs scored six runs in the 5th inning and held on for the win.
The team is now 1-2 early in the season, with plenty of baseball action waiting to be had.
They hit the mound on the road tonight as they tangle with the Bombers in Brooks at 7, then the club returns home tomorrow to face down the Lethbridge Bulls again.
18U AA Beavers split doubleheader at home
The 18U AA Weyburn Beavers were at home Saturday afternoon, braving the smoky conditions to take on the North Battleford Beavers at Tom Laing Park in a double header. The two teams would exchange wins, with North Battleford taking the first game 6-4, and Weyburn the second 3-1.
The first game would see the visitors put up five runs in the fifth inning to take the lead, and they held on for the victory.
Strong performances from Weyburn lacrosse teams
It was a busy weekend for Weyburn lacrosse teams, with three teams travelling to Swift Current for games, and one team heading to Regina.

Jason Glass wins Ralph Vigen Memorial Award at Grande Prairie Stompede
Jason Glass from High River had an outstanding first chuckwagon event of the season.
However, he wasn't able to put the cherry on top after winning the aggregate on Saturday night and winning the Ralph Vigen Memorial Award.
He won the award for having the top aggregate score after four nights of racing.
He finished with a time of 5:07.21 and qualified for the final four $40,000 Dash for Cash on Sunday.
It was Obrey Motowylo taking the buckle, $20,000 and bragging rights for winning his third Grande Prairie Stompede championship.
U13A Bulldogs secure weekend victories with a blowout and a close win
Some softball success over the weekend for the Estevan 13A Bulldogs girls softball as they played two games in Whitewood against the Pipestone Valley Cats and Lumsden Cubs.
Their first game against the Pipestone Valleycats had the Bulldogs claim a victory 11-0. Through the match, they held the Valleycats to zero hits, and 13 of the 18 outs were strikeouts.
Beavers dammed up by Moose Jaw at Tom Laing
One day after an explosive win in Moose Jaw, the Weyburn Beavers found themselves in another nail-biter Sunday afternoon, this time on home turf. Despite a strong mid-game surge, the Beavers fell 8-7 to the Moose Jaw Miller Express, who secured their first win of the season.
Weyburn’s offence was once again sparked by second baseman Alex Alva, who continued his hot streak at the plate.
18UAAA Red Sox take both games at home against South East Twins
The East Central 18UAAA Red Sox picked up a pair of wins at home, besting the South East Twins in their Saturday double header.
Pryor Dyck had a strong showing on the mound for the Red Sox with seven full innings giving up only four hits and a single run in the 5-1 opener.
The Red Sox got it going in the first with a single by Graydn Wilson and a double to centre by Jarret Rude, each knocking in one on their way to the win. An error in the second resulted in a 3-0 score.
Razorbacks unable to stop late rally in Swift Current
The Completely Branded RentPro Weyburn Razorbacks were looking to carry the momentum of a close loss Thursday into Sunday’s game in Swift Current against the Wolverines. The Razorbacks would carry the lead into the third period, but Swift Current would rally late, scoring three goals in the third period to win 6-5.

The Moose Jaw Miller Express recorded their first win of the Western Canadian Baseball League season in Weyburn yesterday.
William Edwards went 2 for 4 with a home run as the Millers topped the Beavers 8-7.
Also on Sunday, the Medicine Hat Mavericks improved to 5 and 0 with a 13-4 win over Swift Current. The 57's are winless after 4 games.
Belt buckles, pony riding, and more at the Kindersley Indoor Rodeo
The Kindersley Indoor Rodeo was a fan favourite once again this past Thursday, Friday, and Saturday with its 32nd annual edition. Nightly performances brought action and fun to the arena, before all the fun concluded with the rodeo dance Saturday night.
Belt buckles were handed out for riding, roping, and wrestling. There were cowboys, cowgirls, and their animal athletes; but there was no rodeo clown, however, according to co-president Steve Macintyre.
