Brier Champion Pat Simmons Pat Simmons named head ice technician at Moose Jaw Curling Centre

Canadian curling icon and Moose Jaw native Pat Simmons has been named head ice technician at the Temple Gardens Centre.

In addition, CURLSASK has designated the Moose Jaw Curling Centre as a high-performance regional training centre, which will offer elite training opportunities for athletes across Saskatchewan.

Central Collegiate Cyclones

The Central Collegiate Cyclones spring camp has already come and gone as players took part at the Yara Centre in Moose Jaw, May 12 - 15.

Veterans and newcomers who attended the camp learned the basics of offense and defense and refined their position skills for the upcoming fall season.

"Having some of the grade eights there and seeing our grade eleven players make the transition to grade twelve players was a good eye opener for us," said Colin Belsher, Cyclones Head Coach.

Clutch single by O'Tremba leads Goldeyes to series win

A clutch base hit by Tanner O’Tremba gave the Winnipeg Goldeyes (10-12) a late lead and an eventual 4-3 victory over the Lake Country DockHounds (11-9) at Wisconsin Brewing Company Park Sunday afternoon.
 
With two out in the top of the ninth inning, O’Tremba lined a single to centre field that brought Ray-Patrick Didder in from third base and broke a 3-3 tie.
 
Trevor Brigden (W, 1-2) pitched around a one-out ground rule double down the left field line by Ray Zuberer III to clinch the win for Winnipeg.

Royals finding their groove for another SWBL season

The Deloraine Royals are back for another season in the South West Baseball League and the group couldn't be happier to be back competing on the diamond.

"It's always exciting when this time of year rolls around," player/manager Mitch Olsen says with a smile. "The town really supports us a great deal and this year specifically, we have a lot of commitment and buy in from guys. We have 19 guys on the roster and everyone is ready to go. We've already played a handful of games and we're happy with how things are going. It's great when the weather turns and we can play ball."

Small schools with big hearts claim provincial banner

While they were playing some elite ball heading into the provincials in Stonewall this past weekend, the smaller schools St. Joachim/Réal-Bérard were perhaps viewed as underdogs, but the team was relentless both at the plate in the field on their way to capturing the fastpitch provincial title.

Head Coach Pat Tetrault says he's still soaking in that his team are the provincial champs. "It feels fantastic," Tetrault says with a big smile. "I got to say, it's been pretty amazing."

57's still seeking first win of WCBL season

A challenging start to the WCBL season for the Swift Current 57's. 

They've dropped the first four games on their schedule.

Swift Current fell 11-1 in Regina on Thursday, 10-4 against Medicine Hat on Friday, 12-5 to Brooks on Saturday, and 13-4 in Medicine Hat on Sunday.

Wilmer Henriquez has been leading the way offensively for the 57's with 3 home runs and 6 runs batted in over 3 games played.

Swift Current heads to Saskatoon on Monday night as they look for their first victory of 2025.
