Red Wings' winning streak derailed in Humboldt

The winning streak is over for the Richardson Pioneer Weyburn Red Wings.  

The Red Wings fell 4-3 in overtime last night against the Humboldt Broncos, the first loss for the Red Wings since October 4th. As the loss was in overtime, it does mean Weyburn has recorded at least a point in eight straight games, keeping the unbeaten-in-regulation streak alive.  

Sports Round-Up: Wednesday, October 23

They scored 3 goals in just over 3 minutes in the first period and the Seattle Thunderbirds went on to a 4-1 win over the Warriors in Moose Jaw last night.

Connor Schmidt was the only Warrior to score as Seattle outshot Moose Jaw 39-24.

The Warriors are boarding the bus and heading west - first stop Kelowna where they'll play the Rockets on Friday.

The WHL announced yesterday that the Warriors’ Lynden Lakovic is on the roster to compete in the CHL-USA prospects challenge November 26 and 27 in Ontario. 

Sports Update - Wednesday, October 23rd

Steinbach Regional recorded its first win of the 2024-25 Winnipeg High School Hockey League season Tuesday at the Gateway Arena. Dylan Wolfe and Peyton Froese scored in the shootout to lift the SRSS past the River East Kodiaks 3-2. Froese and Nate Zilinski scored in regulation for the Sabres. Steinbach Regional goaltender Kash Amar made 23 saves and stopped both shootout attempts by the Kodiaks. The Sabres (1-1) next game is Wednesday, October 30th against the St. Paul's Crusaders at the T.G. Smith Arena. 

Sports Update - Wednesday, October 23rd

Brayden Poirier had a five-point night with four goals and an assist to lead the Carman Cougars past the Garden Valley Zodiacs 7-2 in the lone Zone 4 High School Hockey League game Tuesday. Nate Phillips added a pair of goals for the visiting Cougars while Brayden Cox had the other Carman goal. Josh Hiebert chipped in with three helpers. Mark Schefer and Rhett Peters replied for the Zodiacs. 

Keeping faith the priority with Blue Bombers' Sergio Castillo, Noah and Nick Hallett ▶️

While the road has had many ups and downs for Winnipeg Blue Bombers' Sergio Castillo, Noah Hallett, and Nick Hallett, they credit their faith to helping them get through the challenging circumstances. 

Castillo originally started the sport after being recruited from the soccer team. He says, "One day the football coach came over to the soccer fields like, 'Hey, we're looking for a football kicker' and, you know, I went to go try out and have been doing this for 16 years."
