Vees sign DeMars, Broncos add 1st round pick
Swift Current's WHL draft pick cupboard just got fuller.
The Penticton Vees announced today they've signed American forward Brooks “Boomer” DeMars to a WHL Scholarship and Development Agreement.
Swift Current had moved DeMars' rights to the Vees as a part of the Brady Birnie deal before the recent expansion draft.

Local soccer shines at Sask Rural Cup
A busy weekend on the soccer pitch took place in Humboldt last weekend. The Sask Cup Rural tournament for U15 boys, U19 boys, and U19 girls highlighted the action, with players off all ages on the field for the SaskTel "Be Kind Online" Skill Centre.

U17 Sonic begin season in Moose Jaw Ladies Fastball League
The Swift Current U17 Sonic made their season debut in the Moose Jaw Ladies Fastball League last night and clawed back multiple times to earn a tie.
Down 3-1 and 6-5, Swift Current tied the game with a run in the top of the seventh inning and held the Moose Jaw Strikers scoreless in the home half of the final inning to end in a 6-6 draw.
Bree Pavely and Surrey Lamotte each registered a team-high three hits and an RBI for Swift Current. Five other Sonic batters recorded multi-hit outings.
Royals skip past Hoppers 9-1
A five-run seventh inning was the insurance the Marysburg Royals needed as they downed the Saskatoon Hoppers 9-1.
Marysburg improved their record to 4-1 on the season.
The Royals seventh inning rally included Mick Reuve walk for an RBI. Dakota Smith srove in a pair of runs with a single. Curtis Streuby also contributed with an RBI single, and Tom Hookers capped off the inning with a sacrifice fly.
Padres pursuing pennant for sixth time in nine seasons
The Portage Padres season is underway, and a couple of young men are making an impact on the squad.
Carson Dubois and Kade Maryniuk are both on the diamond, with Maryniuk handling some of the pitching duties, and Dubois adding a home run to his hitting totals so far.
D Ben Fofonoff commits to Broncos for upcoming season
The Humboldt Broncos have received a commitment from 2007-born defenceman Ben Fofonoff for the 2025-26 season.
The Williams Lake, BC product spent the past season with the Caribou Cougars U18 AAA program registering 25 points (3G-22A) in 36 games. He finished with the most points for defencemen with the Cougars and ranked 7th among defencemen in the league.
Sea Bears release guard Mason Bourcier
The Winnipeg Sea Bears announced today that guard Mason Bourcier has been released from the team’s roster, effective immediately.
“The Sea Bears and Mason mutually agreed that parting ways was the best decision for both sides,” said head coach and general manager Mike Taylor. “We are thankful for Mason’s contributions to our team and organization, and we all wish him and his family the best for the future.”

The boys of summer are back in action! The Western Canadian Baseball League season opened last night in Medicine Hat with the hometown Mavericks scoring two in the bottom of the 9th to beat the defending champion Okotoks Dawgs 12-11.
The Mavericks will welcome the Moose Jaw Miller Express tonight. Also tonight, the Swift Current 57s play the Red Sox in Regina and the Weyburn Beavers will host the Saskatoon Berries.
The Florida Panthers eliminated the Carolina Hurricanes in Stanley Cup playoff action last night. Florida won the game 5-3 and the series 4-1.
