RDCRS students attend STEM boot camp

Students from Red Deer Catholic Regional Schools (RDCRS) got to explore potential careers in engineering technology during a Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math (STEM) Boot Camp.  

The event was held in partnership with the Association of Science and Engineering Technology Professionals of Alberta (ASET) and the Northern Alberta Institute of Technology (NAIT).   

A potential rail strike has been delayed

Last Thursday, Canada's Labour Minister Seamus O’Regan requested clarity from the Canadian Industrial Relations Board (CIRB) on whether or not the movement of propane qualifies as an essential service that would have to be maintained during a labour disruption.

CN Rails Assistant Vice President of Grain, David Przednowek says, as a result of that request, there can be no labour disruption before the Industrial Relations Board issues a decision.

RCMP charge multiple prolific offenders

On May 10, just after midnight, Evansburg RCMP received a complaint of suspicious vehicles in Parkland County, along Highway 627.

Police attended the area, located two suspicious trucks, and attempted to complete a traffic stop. The drivers attempted to flee the area and rammed one of the RCMP vehicles.

With the assistance of Edmonton Air Services, Mayerthorpe RCMP, Parkland RCMP, and Drayton Valley RCMP, the members proceeded to pursue both vehicles, resulting in the arrest of three males and one female.

Smoke causing poor air quality for Central Alberta

Environment Canada has issued a special air quality statement for most parts of Central Alberta.

Wildfire smoke coming from northeastern British Columbia is causing a widespread area of very poor air quality and reduced visibility.

Smoke will move eastward through tonight. Conditions should improve by Monday night for most of the province.

Over northern Alberta smoky conditions will continue through Tuesday.

Wildfire smoke can be harmful to everyone’s health even at low concentrations. Everyone can take action to reduce their exposure to wildfire smoke.

Chinook’s Edge Associate Superintendent honoured with Roy E. Cope Award

The Chinook’s Edge School board recognized Associate Superintendent Ray Hoppins for his contributions to student success with the Roy E. Cope Award.  

Hoppins has been an educator for 32 years, working as a teacher, vice principal, division principal, and since 2011, the Associate Superintendent.
