A Community photo contest at Cornerstone Art Commons in Olds is calling on the creative.

The Public Art Collective of Olds (PACO) is inviting local artists and photographers to take part in a community-wide contest to help refresh the art panels at the Cornerstone Art Commons.

Located at 46th Street and 65th Avenue at the west end of the sculpture pathway, the Cornerstone is a gathering place where the community can come together to enjoy outdoor art.

Since 2019, 16 large four-by-eight-foot panels have displayed two-dimensional artwork created by the community, for the community.

PACO is now seeking new work to bring updated stories, images and inspiration to the site.

“This contest is a great way to celebrate the people and stories that make Olds special,” said Alanna Knobben, community spokesperson for PACO.

“Public art helps us connect with each other, with our past and with our future.”

Entrants are asked to share their creative interpretation of what Olds means to them, focusing on one or more of the following themes:

  • Unity – The people, places and traditions that bring Olds together
  • Roots – Our shared history, from Indigenous heritage to pioneer stories
  • Growth – How the community is changing, evolving and looking forward

Everyone is welcome to enter, regardless of age or experience and submissions are open until July 23.

Pieces may reflect everyday life, local landscapes, history, culture, agriculture, technology or personal moments that represent Olds.

Submission guidelines:

  • Up to five pieces per person
  • High-resolution digital images (photography, digital art or photos of original artwork)
  • Artwork must be original and reflect at least one theme
  • Vertical format preferred (panels are four feet wide by eight feet tall)
  • Must be appropriate for public display and align with the Town of Olds public art guidelines

Submissions will be selected by PACO with community input and the new artwork is expected to be installed in early fall.

For more information or to submit your work, visit the Town of Olds website.
