Provincial government increasing efforts to protect waterways from invasive species
The provincial government is increasing efforts to lower the risk of aquatic invasive species being introduced in the province.
To prevent Zebra and Quagga mussels from entering Alberta’s lakes and waterways, the province is increasing the number of watercraft inspection stations, adding more watercraft inspectors, and calling on the federal government to conduct mandatory inspections at the United States border.

H.J. Cody High School hosted the first-ever career fair and job expo on March 21.
Students attended the fair during an assigned block of time during the day to provide them with time to talk to presenters.

The very essence of dedication is a combination of devotion and time. Some things don’t happen overnight and the commitment to see them through can be rare. But for a trio of Rimbey students, their perseverance to see a new outdoor skating rink for Rimbey never wavered.
Reed Tousaint, Tavish Beagle, and Dutch Felt were honoured in February by Wolf Creek Public Schools’ Board of Trustees for their efforts to bring a new outdoor rink to their community. It’s a honour a long time in the making, as the boys, now in Grade 11, started the project in Grade 6.

Local high school student wins national boxing championship
St. Joseph High School (SJHS) Grade 12 student Brody Andrie has been crowned the National Champion in the 57 KG youth division at the prestigious Canada Cup & Junior Youth Canadian Championships. The championships were held at the Genesis Centre in Calgary from March 20 to March 24, 2024.
RDPS name Edwin Parr award nominee
Red Deer Public Schools (RDPS) Gateway Christian School Grade 4 teacher, Rachel Baong, has been nominated for the Edwin Parr award.
Baong always knew she wanted to be a teacher.
Innisfail RCMP respond to serious motor vehicle collision
Innisfail RCMP responded to a serious motor vehicle collision on Highway 590 West of Range Road 265 on March 28, at 8:14 a.m.
Police located a deceased male in the south ditch of Highway 590.
A suspect has now been arrested.

Sylvan Lake Advanced Ambulatory Care closed today
Due to gaps in physician coverage, the Sylvan Lake Advanced Ambulatory Care Service (SLAACS) is temporarily closed today (March 28) from 7:30 a.m. until 10 p.m.
Normal business hours will resume on March 29 at 7:30 a.m.
Patients arriving at the Sylvan Lake Community Health Centre to receive care from SLAACS during a closure will be redirected to other available care options as appropriate to their needs.
Multiple crashes on Central Alberta roads Thursday
Due to the snow Thursday, there have been reports of multiple crashes on Central Alberta roads.
RCMP advise multiple MVC's on QEII between Blackfalds and Ponoka due to icy road conditions. Drive with caution in the area.
Area highways are being reported as snow covered with icy sections.
