Red Deer Public Schools seeing positive results from anti-bullying program

A few months after launching a new program aimed at preventing discrimination and bullying, Red Deer Public Schools is seeing positive results in classrooms and school communities. 

The WITS program, introduced in all Kindergarten to Grade 5 classrooms during Bully Awareness Week in November, has been embraced by students, staff and families, creating safer, more inclusive school environments.

New team-based medical clinic set to open in Bashaw

A new health clinic is scheduled to open up in Bashaw by the end of March.

The clinic will feature six part-time rotating physicians working out of the old Bashaw Hospital as part of the Bashaw Collaborative Health Model.

Local pharmacist Eric Gaudet is a member of the Bashaw Wellness Team, a volunteer committee that has come together to address health needs in the region.

Didsbury’s CAO resigns following closed council meeting

The Town of Didsbury’s Chief Administrative Officer (CAO) has resigned following a special closed council meeting on Feb. 24 that discussed personnel matters.

Council voted to accept Ethan Gorner’s resignation, effective immediately. Gorner served as CAO since January 2020.

"We thank Mr. Gorner for his time and service to the organization and the community," Mayor Rhonda Hunter said in a statement. "We wish him all the best in his future endeavours."

Joly seeks more intelligence sharing with Europeans as Washington drifts from Ukraine

Foreign Affairs Minister Mélanie Joly says Ottawa wants to deepen intelligence sharing with European partners, as longtime ally Washington diverges from Canada on issues like Ukraine.

Liberal leadership candidates pitch plans to confront Trump in English debate

The state of the Canadian economy and U.S. President Donald Trump's trade threats topped the agenda for the Liberal party's English language leadership debate, the second in as many days and the last of the campaign.

Presumed front-runner and former Bank of Canada governor Mark Carney and former finance minister Chrystia Freeland clashed over the Liberal government's record of economic management.

“Our economy was weak before we got to the point of these threats from President Trump,” Carney said. "That's why we need big changes to how we're managing this economy."

Red Deer approves renovations for Sorensen Station washrooms; scheduled to reopen in 2026

During Monday's City Council meeting, Red Deer City Council discussed the Sorensen Station Washroom project and instructed administration to move forward with plans to have the facilities open by the end of March 2026.

Additionally, City Council directed administration to open a semi-permanent washroom facility in Red Deer’s downtown, like prior years, for the summer of 2025.
