Mike Garrow named new Associate Superintendent of People's Services for CESD

Chinook’s Edge School Division has selected Mike Garrow to become the new Associate Superintendent of People Services. Garrow comes to the role after a year of serving as Division Principal and, prior to that, as the Principal École H.J. Cody High School in Sylvan Lake for seven years.

Update: Located (Red Deer RCMP asking for your help in finding missing 31-year-old)

Red Deer RCMP have located Michael Blair. 

Blair went missing on Feb. 6, 2024.

Red Deer RCMP requested the public’s assistance in locating missing 31-year-old Michael Blair. He was last seen in Red Deer, on Feb. 6, 2024. Red Deer RCMP were worried for his wellbeing and wanted to speak with him.

Blair was described as:

Wetaskiwin woman arrested on multiple charges including trafficking

On February 16, 2024, the Wetaskiwin RCMP Crime Reduction Unit identified a repeat offender operating a motor vehicle.

Officers conducted surveillance of the vehicle and observed a different repeat offender in the vehicle who had outstanding warrants. A traffic stop was conducted and the passenger with outstanding warrant was arrested. After a subsequent investigation, a search of the vehicle was conducted where officers located quantities of Methamphetamine, Fentanyl and GHB

Rental incentive grant returns to attract entrepreneurs to downtown Red Deer 

Red Deer’s Vacant Spaces Grant program has returned and is offering up to a $10,000 rental subsidy for entrepreneurs looking to set up shop downtown.  

The grant incentivizes the development of a unique, well-invested downtown where people and businesses thrive.   

'Tugs at my heart': Volunteers help rebuild as Ukraine war nears second anniversary

As Ukraine nears a grim anniversary in its war with Russia, the Red Cross says residents in the strife-torn country are adapting to a new normal of cannibalized houses, intermittent electricity, air raid sirens and rocket attacks.

The agency says residents have embraced the hard reality that with scarce resources going to the war, they must turn to one another to get things done.

Saturday marks the second anniversary of Russia’s invasion of Ukraine.

The Town of Rocky considering building new civic centre  

Rocky Mountain House Town Council is considering building a new civic centre.  

The existing town building is beyond its life expectancy, is not compliant with accessibility building codes, does not have proper evacuation exits in areas, and hazardous building materials exist throughout the facility.  

Council approved the preliminary public engagement plan and survey and reviewed all feedback during the 2023 Service Level Review.
