Environment Canada issued a snowfall warning for Wetaskiwin County and areas including parts of the QEII in that vicinity.
Snow was expected to continue through Saturday.
Additional snowfall accumulations of up to 10 cm were expected.
Rapidly accumulating snow could make travel difficult over some locations.
CWRC commits $11.8 million over five years to the CDC
Earlier this week, the Canadian Wheat Research Coalition (CWRC), announced they’ve committed $11.8 million of funding over the next five years to the University of Saskatchewan’s Crop Development Centre (CDC). With the CWRC’s previous funding agreement with the CDC expiring this year, CWRC’s president Lori-Ann Kaminski knew that this was a deal that needed to be done.
Update: Didsbury RCMP locate missing man

Didsbury RCMP are reporting that 44-year-old Sean Boyd has been located safe.

Didsbury RCMP was seeking public assistance in locating missing 44-year-old Sean Boyd.
Boyd was last seen in Didsbury in the spring of 2024. Police believed he was in the area of Enderby, B.C.

Penhold challenges Central Albertans in 2nd Annual blood drive
The Town of Penhold and Canadian Blood Services have announced the launch of the second annual Penhold Cares Central Alberta Blood Drive Challenge, running from February 1 to 28, 2025.
The Town of Penhold is challenging everyone in Central Alberta to book an appointment and donate blood at the Canadian Blood Services Donor Centre in Red Deer this February. Donors will get to represent one of six zones in the region, battling it out to see which area can claim the title of Top Donor Zone.
Delays expected Thursday on QEII
Drivers will experience delays on the QEII today near Red Deer.
Guardrail repairs are taking place on Highway 2 at the Red Deer River Bridge, west of Red Deer.
Expect a right-hand lane closure and speed reduced to 80 km/h.
Repairs are expected to be completed around 4 p.m. Thursday afternoon.
Crews are also completing high-tension barrier repairs northbound at the Blindman River Bridge southwest of Blackfalds.
Expect a left-hand lane closure and speed reduced to 80 km/h.
Deadly U.S. mid-air collision no reason to panic about wider safety concerns: expert
The deadly mid-air crash in Washington, D.C., Wednesday night is likely the result of unique air traffic patterns in the area and shouldn't cause wider fears over air safety, says an aviation expert.
John Gradek, who teaches aviation management at McGill University, said the Ronald Reagan Washington National Airport has seen rising activity over the years while military aircraft also frequently fly in the area to make it a higher-risk airspace.
Alberta to introduce $15/day childcare at full-time licensed facilities
Alberta will introduce a flat monthly fee of $326.25 for full-time licensed child care, or $15 per day, starting April 1. This change is part of the $3.8-billion Canada-Alberta Canada-Wide Early Learning and Child Care Agreement, aimed at standardizing child-care costs across the province.
Parents using part-time care (50-99 hours per month) will pay $230 per month. Preschool fees will be reimbursed up to $100 per child per month, an increase from $75.
