Several fire departments in Central Alberta are benefitting from the Alberta government's Fire Services Training Program Grant.
More than $1 million is being distributed to more than 65 municipalities, Metis Settlements and First Nations across the province.
The funding will support fire departments in delivering a wide range of training for their firefighters, including ice water rescues, toxic material responses and more.
“This investment in firefighter training is not only welcome – it's essential," said Chief Randy Schroeder, president of the Alberta Fire Chiefs Association. "The Alberta Fire Chiefs Association is pleased to see the government’s commitment to ensuring our firefighters are prepared to meet the growing demands of emergency response. These grants will directly support the safety and readiness of fire services across Alberta’s communities.”
