RDP Kings and Queens back in action this week
This week, the Red Deer Polytechnic (RDP) Basketball, Hockey and Volleyball teams will be back in action. The RDP Volleyball teams will host the Lethbridge Polytechnic Kodiaks twice. The Kings and Queens Hockey teams will play the SAIT Trojans. Both basketball squads will take on the Kodiaks in Lethbridge.

Government of Alberta signs letter of intent with Enbridge to increase oil production
The Government of Alberta is working with partners to increase pipeline capacity in pursuit of its goal to double crude oil production and increase exports to the United States.
Alberta is a strong partner to the United States, currently delivering more than 4.3 million barrels per day to the U.S. The province is committed to increasing Alberta’s crude oil production and preserving and adding pipeline capacity, supporting North American energy security as well as enabling increased U.S. production.
Farmers and Farmerettes hit the ice for annual curling bonspiel
The 80th annual Farmer's Bonspiel is underway this week at the Lacombe Curling Club.
This year also marks the 12th anniversary of the Farmerettes bonspiel, which kicked off Monday along with the men.
Chairperson Graeme Rice noted there are 32 men's teams and 12 women's teams competing in the event.
"We're down a little bit. It's kind of been tapering off. Some people age out and maybe there's not as many younger curlers coming up through the ranks. It gets tough for people if they feel like they have to miss work or something they might not come to it."

Rocky Emergency Department temporarily closed
Due to an unexpected physician absence and inability to secure coverage, the Rocky Mountain House Health Centre emergency department (ED) will be temporarily closed tonight until 7 a.m. January 7, and from 4 p.m. January 7 to 8 a.m. January 8.
During this time, nursing staff will remain on-site in the emergency department to triage and provide care to patients as appropriate and determine if transfer of care to a surrounding facility is required.
Danielle Smith responds to Trudeau’s resignation
Premier Danielle Smith took to social media Monday afternoon to issue a response to Justin Trudeau’s resignation as prime minister and leader of the Liberal Party.
In the post, Smith said, Canadians need and deserve a prime minister and federal government with a clear mandate won from the Canadian people to negotiate with the incoming U.S. President and his administration.
2024 Passport to Christmas, and the winners are!!
The Lacombe and District Chamber of Commerce has made their draw live on Sunny 94 after another successful Passport to Christmas campaign.
This year 17,499 completed passports were turned in with another 2,104 partial passports entered at local businesses. A total of 19,603, which is approximately 1,500 more than in 2023.
The total spending on completed passports was $5,249,700, and on partial passports, $305,080 for a total of $5,554,780. This was money spent during the period of November 11th, to December 24th, 2024.
