On April 30, 2024, at approximately 12:07 p.m., the Rocky Mountain House RCMP responded to a report of a deceased male on O'Chiese First Nation.
Officers located the 21-year-old victim with a gunshot wound.
As a result, the Alberta Major Crimes Unit took carriage of the investigation.
On Feb. 28, Elijah Traves Strawberry, a 23-year-old resident of O'Chiese First Nation, was arrested at the Red Deer Remand Centre where he was in custody on unrelated matters.
Strawberry was charged with the following offences:

Manslaughter;
-
Failure to comply with a weapon prohibition order;
-
Unauthorized possession of a weapon.
Strawberry was taken before a Justice of the Peace and remanded in custody.
He is scheduled to appear in the Alberta Court of Justice in Rocky Mountain House on March 19.
