Physiological Leaf Spot is suspected in a number of winter wheat fields in Southern Alberta.

Physiological leaf spot (PLS) appears as round or oval lesions that may be yellow or bleached white to gray in color. Lesions may also have a dark center with a narrow chlorotic (yellow) halos and tend to be more numerous toward the tip of the leaf blade. PLS lesions are often found in the upper canopy, and missing or rare on lower leaves.

Alberta premier faces raucous, angry town hall on province's coal policy

Alberta Premier Danielle Smith and three of her ministers got an earful on Wednesday night from southern Alberta locals at a rowdy, hours-long town hall to discuss the province's coal policy.

About 500 people, dressed in cowboy hats, belt buckles, and jeans, packed a community hall in Fort Macleod, Alta., for an event marked by heckling, competing applause and placards.

Patel's dental clinic referred The Canadian Press to the husband, who said that he was in the process of booking travel to India for himself and the couple's one-year-old child.

Wetaskiwin RCMP lay charges in connection with fatal hit and run

Wetaskiwin RCMP have laid charges in connection with a fatal hit and run involving a pedestrian on Highway 13 on May 1, 2025. 

Following a public appeal and media release, a tip was received identifying a potential suspect and vehicle. On May 29, RCMP arrested a suspect and seized what is believed to be the vehicle involved. 

Women bring the metal to Millet

It may seem unusual to hear that a metal music festival is happening in Millet this weekend but even more rare is the fact that the entire event is organized and run by women.

The all-ages Decimate Metal Festival, which has taken place around Alberta since 2017, is 100 per cent female-run from planning to execution. 

Sloan Voxx, lead singer of "Syryn" and the founder and primary organizer of the festival, says it just worked out that way over the years and they have no plans to change.

Innisfail Middle School student wins National Every Child Matters t-shirt logo contest

Innisfail Middle School student, Sloane C., has created the winning design in the national Every Child Matters t-shirt logo contest for 2025, hosted by the Orange Shirt Society.

Her design will be printed on t-shirts that will be distributed by the society.

“My librarian at school handed out the information about the contest and I thought it would be fun to do,” says Sloane. “I didn’t think I was going to win because this competition is across Canada and that’s a lot of people.”

Community art contest seeks creativity in Olds

A Community photo contest at Cornerstone Art Commons in Olds is calling on the creative.

The Public Art Collective of Olds (PACO) is inviting local artists and photographers to take part in a community-wide contest to help refresh the art panels at the Cornerstone Art Commons.

Protests at G7 summit in Alberta set to be largely peaceful, targeting Trump policies

Protests during the upcoming G7 leaders summit in Kananaskis, Alta., may be starkly different than demonstrations happening this week against immigration crackdowns in the United States.

A University of Toronto research group that has been monitoring the meetings of world leaders since 1998 says its analysis shows Canadian protests are more peaceful and smaller.

But similar to the recent demonstrations in Los Angeles, they're likely to be against the policies of U.S. President Donald Trump.

More surgeries performed but wait times still longer than before pandemic, study says

The Canadian Institute for Health Information says more surgeries are being performed than before the pandemic — but wait times have still grown longer. 

The report released Thursday looked at wait times for hip and knee replacements, cataract procedures, cancer surgeries, MRIs and CT scans in 2019 and in 2024.
