Ten-year deal expected between ATCO Gas and The Town of Rocky Mountain House

The Alberta Utilities Commission expects to receive an application from ATCO Gas and Pipelines Ltd. to renew its franchise agreement with the Town of Rocky Mountain House, following the submission deadline indicated below.

The franchise agreement will, subject to further renewal, continue to allow ATCO Gas and Pipelines Ltd. the exclusive right to deliver natural gas to the residents of Town of Rocky Mountain House for approximately 10 years from the effective date of the franchise agreement.  

Career and Technology Studies are putting Central Ab students ahead of the rest

A number of students who participated in career pathway learning opportunities during their time in Chinook’s Edge, are now pursuing further post-secondary training in the skilled trades.

Because of strong Career and Technology Studies (CTS) and dual credit programming, these students have already completed a significant portion of training required for employment.

Alberta's Smith to join premiers in Washington amid U.S. tariff threats

Alberta Premier Danielle Smith is travelling back to Washington, D.C., this week, along with her provincial counterparts, to lobby U.S. lawmakers and industry players amid continued tariff threats.

Smith confirmed the trip in a Monday news release, saying she will embrace a "Team Canada approach" to convince Americans the levies would harm workers and businesses on both sides of the border. She also plans to continue highlighting the "significant" role Alberta energy exports play in helping the U.S.

Bids for Rebels special edition jerseys raise over $13,000 

The Red Deer Rebels debuted jerseys designed by the winner of the CHL Jersey Design Contest, presented by Real Canadian Superstore, during last Friday’s game against the Moose Jaw Warriors.  

The jerseys were available for purchase through a silent auction during the game, raising over $13,000.  

Proceeds from the auction will be donated to the President’s Choice Children’s Charity in the fight against childhood hunger.     

Update: Scene cleared on Hwy 53 near Ponoka

Update:

The scene was cleared at 10:07 a.m.

Emergency crews were on the scene of a reported jackknifed semi under the overpass on Highway 53 near the junction with Highway 2 in the Ponoka area.

Both eastbound and westbound traffic was impacted.

511 Alberta says the incident occurred just after 7:30 a.m.

Update: QEII reopened near Red Deer; collision scene cleared

Update:

The scene was cleared at 10:54 a.m.

Original Story:

Traffic was backed up on the QEII southbound at Highway 11 near Red Deer due to several vehicle collisions.

Reports on social media were indicating multiple collisions near the Red Deer River bridge, with several semis involved.

Emergency crews were on the scene.

Roads are said to be icy in the area.

Lacombe County implements energy efficiency measures
