Rocky Mountain House residents win over $700,000 in lottery, plan to travel
Rocky Mountain House residents Candice MacDonald and Hughie MacKay won $707,422.70 on the April 3 LIGHTNING LOTTO draw.
“I look at the win tracker all the time,” MacKay said. “If the jackpot is big, I buy (a ticket) on the way to work and one on the way home.”
On this particular occasion, he saw the instant-win jackpot was sitting at just over $700,000.
“I texted my partner and told her I was going to win the jackpot on the way home,” he chuckled.

Ecole Olds High School student receives honourable mention for provincial Indigenous award
École Olds High School student, Rayna Scott, has received an honourable mention after being nominated for an Honouring Spirit Indigenous Award earlier this year.
The nomination came from educators at ÉOHS and was submitted to the Alberta School Boards Association.
“When I found out I felt happy and honoured. I could not stop smiling,” says Rayna Scott. Scott says when she learned that her biological father is Métis, it increased her sense of pride in herself.

Tips for breeding season success
For cow-calf operations, a major driver of profitability is reproductive efficiency, or the number of calves weaned per cow exposed. There are a lot of factors influencing this outcome, from breeding time through weaning. However, some considerations can be looked at well before the breeding season begins.
After calving, cows will have about 30 to 100 days to recover, resume cycling and be re-bred to calve around the same time the following year. This period through calving and early lactation is when a cow’s requirements for energy and protein are the highest.
CFIA releases the Federally Reportable Disease Report for April 2025
The Canadian Food Inspection Agency is releasing an update with April stats on federally reportable diseases.
As of April 30th, there have been 17 cases of avian influenza, with three in British Columbia, one in Alberta, three in Saskatchewan, and two in Manitoba.
