Foot-and-mouth disease bank one step closer
Industry is applauding the federal government’s progress toward a foot-and-mouth disease vaccine bank after it awarded supply contracts to two companies.
Boehringer Ingelheim Animal Health and Biogenesis Bago SA will supply vaccine products and develop the vaccine bank.
Canadian Cattle Association Saskatchewan director and former Saskatchewan Stock Growers Association president Garner Deobald, who formerly worked for Boehringer, said both companies are well respected and were good choices.
“I think it is important, for sure, to be ready,” he said.
Wetaskiwin roadwork to cause lane closures through July
Starting tomorrow, July 8, partial lane closures will be in effect along 40 and 47 Avenue in Wetaskiwin to allow for sanitary main line rehabilitation.
Work will begin on 47 Avenue between 53 Street and 56 Street, then shift to 40 Avenue between 49 Street and 51 Street.
Closures will be in place from 7 a.m. to 5 p.m. daily, with traffic patterns returning to normal each evening.
Lacombe Composite High School reunion marks 40 years
A high school graduating class from 1985 is meeting in Lacombe this Saturday to celebrate 40 years since completing high school.
The Lacombe Composite High School Class of ’85 reunion has been in the works for well over a year, according to Darren Wilson, one of the organizers.
Almost all of the grads have been tracked down through social media, including the creation of a Facebook group that now has nearly 120 members—a number that surprised even the organizers.
Lacombe construction begins again, commuters asked to plan ahead
The City of Lacombe is informing residents about more construction.
Starting today (July 7), city contractors will close access at 49th Street North and South on 54th Avenue to remove and pour concrete swales.
The work is expected to last a week, and detours will be in place for commuters.
The city encourages drivers to plan alternative routes accordingly and to expect delays.

The vehicle was stolen out of Wetaskiwin at around 6:20 a.m. earlier today (July 7th).

Town of Innisfail responds to public feedback on pool modernization
Town of Innisfail compiles public feedback ahead of pool modernization.
With the closure of the Innisfail pool today, July 7, following their weekend pool party and BBQ, the Town of Innisfail has posted on their social media accounts that they have already received a “substantial amount of feedback from the public.”
Residents have already raised questions about the modernization project set for the pool, which will see it updated and closed until completion in early 2026.
Winning lottery ticket purchased in Eckville
A routine gas station stop paid off in a big way for a Caroline couple.
Branden and Nicole Fay rarely play the lottery, but during a stop in Eckville, they picked up a LOTTO MAX and EXTRA ticket—and ended up winning $100,020 in the May 9 EXTRA draw.
“I opened the cupboard and saw that we had forgotten to check the ticket, so I did it,” said Nicole. “I used some pretty choice words, and then I called Branden!”
Branden, who was in a work meeting at the time, said he was shocked to see 15 missed calls from his wife.

See police dogs in action this Wednesday

The RCMP’s Police Dog Service Training Centre (PDSTC) is hosting a public demonstration this Wednesday, July 9, starting at 10 a.m. in Innisfail. The free event offers a look at the training and discipline of the canines — all of which are German Shepherds.
Gates open at 9 a.m., with the demonstration running outdoors, rain or shine. It will only be cancelled in the event of severe weather.
Attendees are welcome to bring food and drinks, as there will be none available on site.
Premiers Danielle Smith and Doug Ford to sign agreements in Calgary
The premiers of Alberta and Ontario are set to meet in Calgary today to sign two memorandums of understanding.
Alberta Premier Danielle Smith's office says she and Ontario Premier Doug Ford will sign agreements on energy priorities, trade and interprovincial co-operation.
The pair were together at a roundtable in Calgary on Sunday, with Ford tweeting that they discussed how to build new pipelines, as well as rail lines to export Canadian critical minerals and energy.
Smith also bumped into Prime Minister Mark Carney at the Calgary Stampede on Saturday.
