First-time candidate on the ballot for City Council

A Portage man has announced that he will be running for City Council for the first time in this upcoming election.

Faron Nicholls has added his name to the ballot. He says he was close to running in the last election after being approached by people around him, but he decided to focus on his career at the time.

He goes into detail on why he’s looking to join the council.

Newly acclaimed reeve for RM of Stanley excited for new role, but disappointed to miss out on election

Due to a large number of candidates gaining their positions by acclamation, many municipalities in the Pembina and Red River Valleys will not have elections next month for new reeves and mayors. That includes the Rural Municipality (RM) of Stanley, where current Deputy Reeve Ike Friesen will be the municipality's next reeve after the October 26th municipal election.

Souris voters selecting school trustees

There will be an election in the Southwest Horizon School Division.

Voters in Ward 4 the Souris area will have to vote in two trustees and three candidates are on the ballot.

Trevor Butler, Brent Fallis and Teagan Kliever are seeking a seat at the board table. Both Bulter and Fallis are incumbents.

 

All other candidates join the board by acclamation.

Boissevain-Morton voters have choices

Voters in the Municipality of Boissevain-Morton will be heading to the polls October 26th to vote for municipal councillors.

Head of Council Judy Swanson is back in by acclamation.

As for council positions seven people have filed papers and are running for six seats around the council table.

 

The ballot will include the following candidates seeking a four year term on council:

Niverville Mayor acclaimed with possible Council shuffle after October 26

“I’m very humbled and honored to have the privilege of being able to serve the wonderful people here in Niverville.”  

Myron Dyck responded to the news that he was acclaimed as Mayor for the town of Niverville for another 4 years. Dyck has been on council for 14 years, six as councillor and eight as Mayor.  

Mayor Ewen wins by acclamation in Ritchot

The Mayor for Ritchot is back for another four-year term. Chris Ewen has won by acclamation.

"Although we had a bit of an indication that it would be an acclamation, I'm still very, very excited and I'm very passionate about my municipality and I continue to look forward to serve them," notes Ewen. "I'm humbled by the faith that the municipality and residents have in me."

In reflecting on the fact that no one chose to challenge him in his bid for another term, Ewen admits that he does not enjoy winning by acclamation. He says he does not like apathy.

Nomination deadline came and went on Tuesday and for the Turtle Mountain School Division (TMSD) it didn’t generate the need for any elections.

All positions were filled by acclamation.
