The Ward Five Councillor for the Rural Municipality of Hanover says it was an easy decision. Darrin Warkentin is referring to the fact he has decided to run for another term on council, representing the Kleefeld area.
City hiring election workers
The City of Grande Prairie is seeking community members to work at voting stations for the by-election in October.
An election worker is an integral part of the electoral process as they help maintain a fair, transparent election and facilitate a smooth voting process on advanced voting days and on election day.
The positions available to be filled are Presiding Deputy Returning Officer (PDRO) and Deputy Returning Officer (DRO).
Politically-experienced Portager running for seat on city council
Joe Masi has submitted his name to the list of Portage la Prairie residents running for city council. He notes he spent a big part of his career working in politics, and also served as executive director for the Association of Manitoba Municipalities.
City receives additional bid for council position in upcoming election
The City of Portage la Prairie has another name that's been added to the bids for those running for a seat on council in the upcoming October 26th election.
Bill Knott notes he's always had an interest in politics.
"I think citizens should take an interest in what's going on with your roads or sewers, things that are happening, parks, and so on," explains Knott. "So, having the time as a retired person, I thought would have a go at it."
He outlines reasons for votes to come his way this fall.
Penner challenging for Ward Four seat in Hanover
He may be new to Hanover, but council candidate Ed Penner is certainly no stranger to municipal politics. Penner has announced he is running for the seat of Ward Four in the Rural Municipality of Hanover.
From 1980 until just recently, Penner was a resident of the RM of Stuartburn. During that time, he spent 20 years on municipal council there. In fact, he was still a councillor in that municipality until he moved to Hanover this summer. In the October 26th election, he will challenge incumbent Councillor John Giesbrecht.
Reynard won’t seek re-election, Kenora to elect 9th Mayor
The Kenora community will be electing a new Mayor this fall.
On August 12, Mayor Dan Reynard confirmed with regional media members that he will not be letting his name stand in this fall’s election, saying the decision was a difficult one to make and he is keeping his reasons private.
That means Kenora is set to elect its 9th Mayor on October 24. Currently, councillor Andrew Poirier is running for the seat, along with Andy Scribilo and David Byers-Kitt.
Reynard was elected as Kenora’s Mayor in 2018, defeating Lydia Harlos for the seat.

City Councillor Jac Siemens has announced his intention to run for re-election. He says the decision was an easy one.
“This is something I have really enjoyed for the last four terms and I am now seeking a fifth term on city council. I think we've made a difference.”
Susan Penner seeking fourth term on Steinbach's City Council
Steinbach City Councillor Susan Penner has announced her intention to seek re-election.
Penner was first elected to city council in 2010 and has served in each of the last three terms. She notes running for another four-year term is no small choice, but she believes it is worthwhile.
“We are in the middle of numerous big projects and I'd really like to see those projects to completion over the next four years so that has certainly played a role in my decision to run again.”
Ryan Espey announces re-election bid for City Council
As we approach the municipal elections held in October, more and more candidates for City Council have stepped forward including Ryan Espey, who will be looking for re-election.
He says it was quite the internal debate between running for re-election and trying for the mayor's seat, but he decided that it would be too much of a time commitment and that it would take too much focus away from his family and business.
City By-Election to be held on October 17
Grande Prairie City Council has set Monday, October 17, 2022, as the date for a by-election to fill a vacancy left on City Council by the unfortunate passing of Grande Prairie City Councillor, John Lehners.
The Municipal Government Act requires the City to hold a by-election within 120 days from when the vacancy began.
