'It's a heavy day': Families react after potential remains found in Manitoba landfill
Relatives of two murdered Indigenous women expressed shock, hope and anger Thursday, after receiving news that potential human remains have been found at a landfill where their loved ones were believed to have been taken.
"I think the shock of everything has finally hit me," Melissa Robinson, a cousin of Morgan Harris, said at a press conference sitting beside other relatives
"To every one of you that said no (to a search), to every one of you that didn't believe in us, do better," said Harris's daughter Elle Harris.
Alberta's largest union joins CUPE 5040 on picket lines in High River
The striking education support staff workers had some company on the picket lines in High River Thursday (Feb. 27) morning.
Members of the AUPE, the Alberta Union for Public Employees, joined CUPE 5040 striking workers near Spitzee Elementary School.
Water line work could lead to intermittent water shutoffs in Nanton
Nanton residents may experience their water being intermittently shut off over the next few days.
Crews will be out doing some water service line work on Friday, Feb. 27 and Monday, March 3, which could cause the water to be shut off occasionally.
On Friday, crews will be working at 2406 17 Street, whereas on Monday, March 3, crews will be working at 2305 24 Street.
High River's FCSS divvy up $75,000 in grant money to local non-profits
$75,000 in grant money has been shared amongst 10 non-profit service groups in High River.
They received applications from 17 organizations, asking for a record total of $229,844. However, with a budget of $75,000, the FCSS Community Grant Task Force had to make some tough decisions.

A water polo tournament is taking over the Okotoks Rec Centre this weekend.
The local Prairie Dolphins Water Polo Club is hosting a U14 tourney this Saturday and Sunday.
The Boys teams kick it off on March 1st at 3:30 p.m. with the Prairie Dolphins team paired with the Riptides at 4:20.
Then the Girls hit the pool on Sunday morning starting at 8 a.m.
The deadline to use Peavey Mart gift cards is coming up fast
As Peavey Mart continues to wind down its operations across Canada, customers are running out of time to use any remaining gift cards.
They'll only be accepted until Friday, Feb. 28.
Within the last few weeks, Peavey Mart warned customers of online scams, including fake Peavey Mart websites and social media accounts.
Gift cards can only be used in-store, as their liquidation sales are in-store only.
Polls suggest a close race as federal election approaches
Multiple polls now suggest the next federal election will be a tight race, and at least one major pollster has the Liberals leading the Conservatives for the first time in nearly four years.
A survey from Ipsos released this week suggests that if an election were held today, 38 per cent of Canadians would support the Liberals and 36 per cent would back the Conservatives.
That's a major shift from just six weeks ago, when the Conservatives held a 26-point lead in Ipsos polls.
Funding extended for Manitoba Farmers to tackle climate change
The Prairie Watershed On-Farm Climate Action Project (PWCP) is expanding, and it's good news for farmers in Manitoba. The project, which has been helping farmers reduce their environmental footprint since 2022, is getting a significant boost from the Canadian government.

Tree removal is happening in Okotoks to make room for sanitary construction
The Town of Okotoks will be removing some trees in town, beginning today.
The tree removal will be happening at the Operations Centre and Wastewater Treatment Plant, which will allow the town to construct a larger sanitary main.
This is a larger underground pipe system that carries wastewater from homes, business, and building to the Town's wastewater treatment facility.
Once the construction has been completed, the Town will have new trees planted and some new landscaping enhancements will be completed.
