Vulcan students learn the consequences of impaired driving through mock collision
Students from County Central High School (CCHS) in Vulcan got a first-hand look at the consequences of impaired driving during the RCMP’s second annual mock impaired collision.
The demonstration was hosted by Vulcan RCMP Constable Ken Jones on June 6, as part of the Safe Grad mission to prevent teens from driving while under the influence of drugs or alcohol.

Physiological Leaf Spot is suspected in a number of winter wheat fields in Southern Alberta.
Physiological leaf spot (PLS) appears as round or oval lesions that may be yellow or bleached white to gray in color. Lesions may also have a dark center with a narrow chlorotic (yellow) halos and tend to be more numerous toward the tip of the leaf blade. PLS lesions are often found in the upper canopy, and missing or rare on lower leaves.

Volunteers are needed in High River to pilot the trishaw bike for seniors this summer
If you live in High River, you will start seeing the town's trishaw electric-assisted bike rolling through town.
However, the town needs some volunteers to pilot the trishaw bike around town.
The town's website asks that you commit to one or two times per month for a few hours over the summer.
The Cycling Without Age program has been in High River since 2017.

A vehicle fire recently caused a road closure in Diamond Valley for a couple of hours
Diamond Valley Fire Rescue responded to a vehicle fire on Wednesday (June 11), which caused a road to be closed for a couple of hours.
At approximately 4:42 p.m., the Diamond Valley Fire Rescue were dispatched to a vehicle fire on George Street between Sunset Boulevard and McLeod Crescent/Regent Road on the Turner Valley side of town.
Once the crews arrived, they saw a construction trailer that was fully engulfed in flames, and the radiating heat was threatening a neighbouring home.

The report released Thursday looked at wait times for hip and knee replacements, cataract procedures, cancer surgeries, MRIs and CT scans in 2019 and in 2024.
The results are in for the 35th Annual Soapbox Derby this past weekend
The 35th Annual Okotoks Rotary Club Soapbox Derby happened this past weekend, and over 100 kids took part.
The Derby took place on Saturday, June 7, on Crystal Ridge Drive in Okotoks, and according to the Rotary Club of Okotoks President, Jeff Foss, it took the overall winner just over half a minute to get down the hill.
"We had a lovely day, and we had, I think it was 104 kids go down the hill," Foss explained. "And it was a good day, a lot of smiling faces."
There were 24 heats, each with 4 racers, competing to see who was the fastest this year.
