Golf carts could legally be driving down an Alberta street near you

Residents in smaller communities may be able to use golf carts to get around town.

Currently, the provincial government us working with the Town of Coaldale on a pilot program that will allow for limited use of golf carts in their community.

Through this program, municipalities will be granted the flexibility to adopt different transportation modes, which will help to reduce congestion, improve the quality of life for residents, as well as enhance the mobility of residents and increase recreational options.

Now is the time to win with twine

A new type of round-up is going to provide money to those who work with twine.

The Great Twine Round-up is a new province-wide initiative that will help promote recycling of used plastic baler twine.

It is a contest put on by Cleanfarms and the Agricultural Plastics Recycling Group, and groups, such as 4-H clubs or nonprofit organizations or charities that support agriculture, are eligible for one of four $3,000 prizes for simply recycling used twine.

Through this contest, they are hoping to tackle the environmental impact plastic baler twine has on the province.

Drilling for Oil: Jacob Goudreau

Jacob Goudreau is playing his first season in the BCHL and repping a Green and Gold sweater but it's not his first time playing in Okotoks as he was a part of the Drumheller Dragons of the AJHL in his two previous seasons.

Goudreau came over this season with Coy Pighin, Jamie Hikida, and Oilers assistant captain Cyle Clayton from the Dragons.

"It's been a pretty easy transition, (Dragons) play a very similar style and that's why Deis (Oilers head coach) brought us here," Goudreau mentioned.

Highwood JV Girls and SV Boys push volleyball games to four sets

The Highwood Mustangs had two Volleyball games over the week with the JV Girls playing on Monday (Oct. 21) and the SV Boys on Tuesday (Oct. 22).

The Mustangs JV Girls played against the Strathcona-Tweedsmuir School (STS). Highwood would take the first set 25-22 even after STS made a close set, scoring eight points near the end of the set.

Scammers are pretending to be fire fighters in Diamond Valley

The Diamond Valley Fire Rescue is warning people about a scam.

They took to Facebook to warn residents that people are going around town pretending to be members of the fire department.

They are using high pressure sales tactics to sell uncertified fire prevention materials.

These scammers may try to also reach out to people through Facebook.

Piikani RCMP arrest two on drug and weapons offences

The Piikani Nation RCMP recently charged two people with drug and weapons offences.

On Tuesday, October 22, Piikani Security alerted Piikani Nation RCMP of a vehicle that lost one of its wheels and drove into a ditch near Brocket on Highway 3.

Once the RCMP arrived, they found that both of the people in the vehicle had outstanding warrants and were placed under arrest for those warrants.

The vehicle contained drug paraphernalia that was in plain sight, which caused the vehicle to be searched incidental to arrest.

RCMP need help locating wanted female

The Wetaskiwin RCMP is asking Albertans for help in locating 31-year-old Talsa Ashlee Cardinal, a Wetaskiwin resident after fleeing from the RCMP.

Cardinal was out on a release order for First Degree Murder out of the Edmonton Police Service with a 24-hour curfew. On October 19, Cardinal was observed breaching her release order.

When Wetaskiwin RCMP attempted to arrest Cardinal for failure to comply with the release order, she proceeded to assault the officer, resisted arrest, and fled from the location. 

The current whereabouts of Cardinal is unknown. 

Federal government announces massive drop in immigration targets as Liberals make major pivot

The federal government is slashing immigration targets to levels that will flatten population growth as Prime Minister Justin Trudeau admits the government did not get the balance right after the COVID-19 pandemic.

The government had targeted bringing in 500,000 new permanent residents in both 2025 and 2026.

Next year's target will instead be 395,000 new permanent residents, and that will fall to 380,000 in 2026 and 365,000 in 2027.
