June is Pride Month and the Town of High River flies Pride flag in support
June is Pride awareness month, and the Town of High River raised a Pride flag in support on Monday morning.
Mayor Craig Snodgrass raised the flag and proclaimed it Pride Month with a few dozen supporters on hand, cheering.
Okotoks Dawgs get first win of the season at afternoon matinee
The Okotoks Dawgs picked up their first win of the WCBL season on Sunday afternoon.
The 2 p.m. game time versus the Lethbridge Bulls filled the stands, and the Dawgs came through with a 10-7 win.
The Dawgs scored six runs in the 5th inning and held on for the win.
The team is now 1-2 early in the season, with plenty of baseball action waiting to be had.
They hit the mound on the road tonight as they tangle with the Bombers in Brooks at 7, then the club returns home tomorrow to face down the Lethbridge Bulls again.
Jason Glass wins Ralph Vigen Memorial Award at Grande Prairie Stompede
Jason Glass from High River had an outstanding first chuckwagon event of the season.
However, he wasn't able to put the cherry on top after winning the aggregate on Saturday night and winning the Ralph Vigen Memorial Award.
He won the award for having the top aggregate score after four nights of racing.
He finished with a time of 5:07.21 and qualified for the final four $40,000 Dash for Cash on Sunday.
It was Obrey Motowylo taking the buckle, $20,000 and bragging rights for winning his third Grande Prairie Stompede championship.
Ports, mines and pipelines top premiers' wish lists ahead of meeting with Carney
Canada's premiers are heading into to a meeting with Prime Minister Mark Carney in Saskatoon Monday armed with their wish lists for major "nation-building" projects that could buttress the economy in the face of a U.S. trade war.
Carney asked the premiers to each pass on five suggestions for national infrastructure projects, and Monday's meeting will aim to identify the ones that will make the final cut to be fast tracked using legislation Ottawa may introduce as early as this week.
Canada Post rejects union's request for binding arbitration to end labour dispute
Canada Post has rejected a request from the union representing about 55,000 of its workers to send their ongoing labour dispute to binding arbitration.
The Canadian Union of Postal Workers made the request in a statement Saturday, saying it was inviting Canada Post to a fair, final and binding arbitration process to resolve negotiations that have dragged on for months without producing a new collective agreement.

The Okotoks Dawgs had their 2025 Home Opener last night (Saturday, May 31) against the Energy City Cactus Rats.
Before the first pitch was thrown, the Dawgs gave legendary Don Seaman a salute.
The salute was topped off with a tribute video to Don Seaman and all of the Dawgs teams gathered together and tipped their caps to the principal donor of the Seaman Stadium complex.
There was also a banner unveiling of their 2024 Championship Banner.
The game began slow, with neither team scoring until the sixth inning.

While the federal government and cities across Canada are making strides on expanding the housing supply, the provinces still need to get serious about building quality homes, a new report released Thursday argues.
No province earned a grade higher than C+ in the report assembled by the Task Force for Housing and Climate, a non-governmental body that was struck in 2023 with backing from the philanthropic Clean Economy Fund.
The task force's "report card" evaluated governments based on their policies for building homes quickly and sustainably.

The Okotoks Rec Centre is a busy place this weekend.
At the Rec Centre, the Town of Okotoks is hosting an Indigenous Market, a Tipi camp, and their first ever Powwow this weekend.
This is the third time the Town has held the Market, and there are over 50 vendors onsite.
The Powwow is a two-day competition that has dancers and drummers.
Members from Okotoks Town Council and MP John Barlow participated in the grand entry today.
Fatal dirt bike collision claims two lives
Two 21-year-old men from Cochrane are dead as a result of a dirt bike collision.
Cochrane RCMP responded on Saturday, May 31, at 12:42 p.m. to the off-road collision involving two motocross bikes in the Horse Creek area near Cochrane.
Fire and EMS also attended the scene; however, they were unable to keep them alive, and they both died on the scene.
An investigation into the cause of the collision is underway.
