Portage Terriers

The Portage Terriers season tickets are available now. 

The Dogs had an incredible regular season campaign in 2022-23, and they're hoping to follow it up with another prosperous season, but they will need the support of the local fans to do so. Marketing director Cody Buhler says season ticket holders from previous years won't have a larger hole in their pocket than they're used to.

The Portage Terriers are proud of the 2022-23 season but are looking to keep the success rolling into next year. The Dogs are losing three of their regulars on the backend from last season but drafted five new blueliners in the 2023 MJHL Draft.

The Terriers' first selection came 13th overall, and they picked up Reece Gault out of RINK Hockey Academy.

Brandon Funk is on the move for the second time in six months.

The forward was traded by the Winnipeg Blues to the Steinbach Pistons in exchange for the MJHL List Rights to Blake Goretzki and Cole Penner. Funk says he is extremely excited to play for a high-calibre franchise like Steinbach.

The Portage Terriers are bidding farewell to eight players from the 2022-23 campaign but this season wasn't the end of the line for all of them. Three graduating Terriers committed to universities across the country this morning.

Brandon McCartney grew up as a city kid in Winnipeg and never really understood the appeal of the rural lifestyle. Now, after two years with the Portage Terriers, he says his view has completely changed.

The Portage Terriers were very active at the CJHL cutdown deadline in December. The squad added five new skaters on December 1st, none making a larger contribution than defenceman Matt McLeod. 

The Winnipegger spent the last few seasons in his hometown with the Blues, but in the final year of his junior career, he was happy to be moved to a winning situation.

The 2023 Manitoba Junior Hockey League Draft went down yesterday in Winnipeg. The Portage Terriers made seven selections in the eight-round draft. 

The Portage Terriers acquired veteran forward Bryden Kiesman a month into the 2022-23 regular season, and he fit in immediately. The Winnipegger picked up nine points in his first five games as a Terrier, scoring a hat-trick in his first appearance in the green and white. 

Kiesman was traded from the SJHL's Nipawin Hawks in exchange for forwards Alyandro De Leon and Hudson Cameron.

The Portage community showed just how much they love the sport of hockey during the 2023 Centennial Cup. 

Stride Place had a vibrant atmosphere for eleven consecutive days during the tournament. The chair of game day operations, Dave Koroscil, was extremely happy with how smoothly everything went. 

Dean Stewart was crushed when his season ended initially, but after time to reflect, he says it's hard not to think of it as a success. 

The Manitoba Moose defenceman helped his team finish the season with a top-twelve record in the American Hockey League and make the playoffs. The Portager says this was his first postseason experience at this level.
