Airdrie city fees to adjust Sept. 1 — what's impacted and by how much?
Admission rates at Genesis Place, transit fares, and several facility rentals will increase Sept. 1 following a 1.7 per cent Consumer Price Index (CPI) adjustment approved by Airdrie city council on April 15.
The increase is authorized under the User Fees and Charges Policy (P-COM-65-C), which states that "in years two through four, a CPI factor will be applied to User Fees and Charges that are not dependent on cost recovery." Airdrie is currently in year four of the council term.
One Airdrie–Cochrane ballot among 822 not counted in Elections Canada ballot handling error
Elections Canada says 822 national special ballots cast by electors from 74 electoral districts "had mistakenly been kept at the office of the returning officer for Coquitlam–Port Coquitlam during the 45th general election." According to Elections Canada's table, Airdrie–Cochrane was among the ridings listed with one special ballot that was not returned to Elections Canada headquarters in time to be legally counted.

Rocky View Schools modular classrooms request falls short
On April 17, Alberta Education informed Rocky View Schools (RVS) that it would receive five new classroom units and one washroom unit relocation through the Modular Classroom Program.
"These six units fall short of RVS’s request and, as a result, pressure on our schools will continue with utilization at many rising above 100 per cent by 2026/27," stated the school division.
According to RVS, they submitted a request for 27 new modular classroom units and one washroom unit relocation to Alberta Education in November 2024.
Airdrie spray park could open for long weekend
A date has been set for when Airdrie's Chinook Winds Spray Park is scheduled to open.
Cory Anderson, who works with the City of Airdrie Parks Department, explained that if the city can pass the health test, it will be open for the May long weekend (next weekend).
"We have added a lot of new mechanical upgrades to support the features that we have. This year, there won't be anything tangible that people will be able to see."

Data centers offering big opportunity for Rocky View County
Rocky View County (RVC) is currently going through the regulatory and approval process for applicants to build data centers within RVC.
Aaron Latimer, the manager of economic development for RVC, explained why the county is looking for data center investments.
Alberta surpasses 300 measles cases as doctors warn of exponential increases
More than 300 people in Alberta have fallen ill from measles since March and a group of doctors are warning the virus could grow exponentially in the coming weeks.
The Alberta government is reporting 16 new measles cases to bring the province's total count to 313.
The rising number has prompted the association representing Alberta doctors to warn of an outbreak that could quickly reach the thousands.
Smith says sovereignty referendum provides 'outlet' to avoid creation of new party
Alberta Premier Danielle Smith says she's willing to risk a separation referendum in part to avert the emergence of a political rival.
Smith says she doesn't support separating her province from Canada, but says Albertans have genuine grievances with the federal government, and she wants concessions from Liberal Prime Minister Mark Carney.
Speaking Wednesday to CTV News Channel, Smith was asked if it wasn't easier to quell separatism by taking it off the table.
Smith responded, “If there isn’t an outlet, it creates a new party.”

A British Columbia researcher in South Asian affairs said Thursday that concerns about the current India and Pakistan tensions are justified, given that the region has not seen conflicts this intense in more than 25 years.
M.V. Ramana, professor at University of B.C.'s school of public policy and global affairs, said the last time there was a realistic risk of nuclear weapons being used was the conflict between the two sides in the Kargil region of Kashmir in 1999.
