Serata: Manitoba music teachers perform to help raise money
Coming up this Sunday May 5th at 7:00pm at St. Andrews River Heights United Church The Manitoba Registered Music Techers Association is hosting their annual Serata concert.
Advertised as An Evening of Musical Delights the concert will feature some of the MRMTA’s very talented teachers in performances ranging from solo to ensemble works.

On the first Friday of the month, listeners can find Chris Hall of McNally Robinson Booksellers in the Classic 107 studio to share his latest picks in the "What to Read" feature.
As always, the diverse and eclectic suggestions encompass a variety of genres and styles. Chris also spoke about some of the goings-on at McNally, including book launches, community classroom events and a "hairbrained scheme" that has been years in the making.

Winnipeg choral community presents workshop with renowned Filipino choir
The Manitoba Choral Association has partnered with Musica Singers to host a workshop with a celebrated choir during a stop in town.
Founded in 1963 and based out of the University of the Philippines, Diliman, the award-winning Philippine Madrigal Singers – or “Madz” as they are often called – are the first two-time winners of the European Grand Prix for Choral Singing and have been recognized by UNESCO as Artists of Peace.
“(Madz) has toured extensively throughout the world,” says Oscar Pantaleon, music director of Musica Singers.

Founded in 1925, the ensemble is one of the longest, if not the longest, continually operating boys’ choirs in Canada and they close out their 99th season in "Crescendo! Rising Towards a Century of Song."
International Jazz Day proclaimed in Manitoba
It's official.
April 30 is International Jazz Day across the province of Manitoba.
In a press release, Jazz Winnipeg announced the proclamation, recognizing the role the province's “vibrant community of talented and award-winning professional jazz artists have [played] to help shape our province’s dynamic cultural community and represent the province all over the world.”
UNESCO declared the same day as the world's largest celebration of jazz back in 2011, to "highlight jazz and its diplomatic role of uniting people in all corners of the globe."

Tune in at 1:00pm as we celebrate the 152nd birthday of the Swedish violinist, conductor and composer Hugo Alfvén.
Considered to be one of Sweden’s pre-eminent composers right up until his death in 1960, Alfvén wrote a considerable amount of orchestral music. Five Symphonies, three what he called Swedish Rhapsodies, and a large amount of program music. Much of Alfvén’s orchestral music depicts the Swedish countryside and myths and is heavily influenced by late Austro-German Romanticism.
