Frank Huang acquires a legendary bow from the Prince of Chimay’s collection

Frank Huang, the concertmaster of the New York Philharmonic, recently acquired an important violin bow through a private sale by Tarisio.

Crafted by renowned bow maker Pierre Simon, it was originally made for Belgian diplomat Prince Caraman de Chimay as part of a decorated quartet commissioned by Jean-Baptiste Vuillaume, the most famous French violin maker of the 19th century.

The bow, which is adorned with the Caraman de Chimay family’s coat of arms and intricate engravings, is mounted in ebony and gold.

B.C. writer Steven Galloway's defamation case clears court hurdle as appeal rejected

The Supreme Court of Canada has dismissed a bid to appeal by accusers of former University of British Columbia writing professor and novelist Steven Galloway, paving the way for his defamation case against them to go to trial. 

Galloway sued several people in B.C. Supreme Court in 2018, alleging he was defamed with false sexual assault allegations by fellow professors, a former student and others who repeated the statements on social media and elsewhere.

The Ties that Bind: Wag-Qaumajuq celebrates motherhood with MOTHERGROUND

Opening on October 12th and going until March 31, 2025, there is an exhibit that is happening at the Wag-Qaumajuq that explores the idea of Motherhood. 

Called MOTHERGROUND, this exhibit features the work of Winnipeg, photographer, sculpture, videographer, and multi-disciplinary artist Dominique Rey. 

Morning Light gets new shine as Classic 107 says farewell to beloved host

Classic 107 listeners will soon hear a fresh voice to start their weekday mornings.

It was officially announced last week that Simeon Rusnak, the longtime host of Morning Light, will be leaving the station to take on the role of Director of Classical Programming with the Winnipeg Symphony Orchestra.

Dialogues: Renowned Canadian cellist and pianist communicate perfectly by way of Rachmaninov and Clarke

On Friday, September 20th the Halifax based Leaf Music Label released a fabulous recording that features two grand works for cello and piano. Called Dialogues the recording features Rachmaninov’s lyrical and monumental cello sonata, and Rebecca Clarke’s impressionistic and gorgeous viola sonata which she herself arranged for cello.
