Finding the ‘groove’: continuo talk with Kerri McGonigle and Christopher Bagan

The Manitoba Chamber Orchestra closes out their 50th anniversary season with a concert staging of Handel’s opera Alcina – an MCO first!  

In collaboration with director Geneviève Pelletier, MCO Music Director Anne Manson and company plan to bring a theatrical flair to this semi-staged performance. 

Featuring world-class coloratura sopranos Tracy Dahl and Andriana Chuchman, joined by the outstanding mezzo soprano Lizzy Hoyt, the amazing contralto Rose Naggar-Tremblay, plus exciting tenor Nolan Keyler – this is not a production to be missed.  

Meet the Agassiz Artist: Catherine French

A member of the renowned Boston Symphony Orchestra since 1994, the Canadian-born violinist has established herself as a versatile and accomplished soloist and chamber musician in addition to her distinguished orchestral career – which includes a stint with the Winnipeg Symphony Orchestra!  

Catherine returns to the Agassiz Chamber Music Festival – 22 years after first performing – in a variety of programs and concerts.

Meet the Agassiz artist: Daniel Bolshoy

Guitarist Daniel Bolshoy is a well-travelled concert soloist, recitalist, and avid chamber musician committed to the proselytization of his instrument. A Senior Lecturer in the Hugh Hodgson School of Music at the University of Georgia where he directs the guitar program, Bolshoy brings his undeniable talent to the outstanding roster of Agassiz Chamber Music Festival artists this year.  

No stranger to Winnipeg audiences, Bolshoy has previously performed in town with the Manitoba Chamber Orchestra, Women’s Musical Club of Winnipeg and Winnipeg Classical Guitar Society.  

Meet the Agassiz artists: Ásdís Valdimarsdóttir and Mick Stirling

Agassiz Chamber Music Festival is officially underway.  

Presenting top notch performances by both Manitoba-based and internationally renowned artists, the weeklong celebration of chamber music features a wide variety of genres, formats and composers.  

Two first-time participants, violist Ásdís Valdimarsdóttir and cellist Mick Stirling, feature prominently in the programming.  

Based in the Netherlands, Valdimarsdóttir is on faculty at the Royal Conservatory of the Hague and Stirling serves as principal cello of the Radio Philharmonic Orchestra.
