Fundraising efforts in 'full swing' for accessibility at Island Park

Portage la Prairie is one step closer to having wheelchair-accessible playground equipment which would make Island Park a more inclusive play space for everyone.

At the centre of the initiative is Kim Wikdahl, volunteer and co-chair of the Parks Committee. She says the idea was sparked years ago after watching a local family help their child, who uses a wheelchair, on and off a school bus — and noticing the lack of accessible options in the city’s parks.

It's time for the best from the best on Twitter Tuesday.

First thing this morning this guy says, "We can put Katy Perry in space but we can't make a smoke detector battery that doesn't chirp at 2 AM."

I like this, "Just had to do employee confidentiality training. I probably shouldn't be telling you this."

A funny gal I follow says, "Yes, I'm still single. I'm playing hard to tolerate."

Adorable Adoptables: Meet Max, the sweetest senior cat

This week’s featured Adorable Adoptable is Max, a sweet senior currently in the care of the Cochrane and Area Humane Society.

"He's one of our longer term residents and he's about 7 1/2 years old," says Robyn Roy, communications coordinator with the Humane Society.

"But don't let his age fool you. He is a sweet boy with still lots of energy."

"He does have some special dietary needs and we're always happy to discuss that," says Robyn.

Adopting Max means welcoming a gentle, loving companion who’s sure to brighten your home.
