Crop Report shows rainfall improving livestock water supplies

Frequent rainfall and excess moisture have resulted in one per cent of the acres in the province going unseeded.

Crops extension specialist Meghan Rosso says overall, the rain is supporting crop growth in the majority of regions across the province, but there is some crop stress occurring in the northern regions from excess moisture.

"Currently, three per cent of land is flooded and unlikely to produce a crop, one per cent of forage crops have excess moisture and are unlikely to produce a crop."

Diva for a Day golf tournament another big hit for Humboldt BBBS

 

The Diva for a Day Golf Tournament continues to make a long-term impact on Humboldt Big Brothers and Big Sisters. 

This year's fundraiser recently took place at the Humboldt Golf Club, with over 125 golfers hitting the links in support.  

Program Support/Development Coordinator Tammy Reudig said this year’s event was another success.   

Update: Métis Nation – Saskatchewan brings unity event to Humboldt for Indigenous Peoples Day

National Indigenous People’s Day is Friday, June 21, and Humboldt will be celebrating along with First Nations and Métis people at a noon event in Civic Park. The day is presented by Métis Nation – Saskatchewan (MN-S) in cooperation with the City of Humboldt.  

Opening ceremonies and speeches will be held at noon at Humboldt’s Civic Park, followed by an afternoon of free swimming and water fun for the kids at the Humboldt Aquatic Centre. A burger lunch is hosted by MS-N sponsored by the Humboldt Coop. 

Province reminds the public about important hay salvage deadlines

Today, the Government of Saskatchewan reminded farmers and ranchers about some key dates as the annual highways hay salvage and ditch mowing clips along for the season.

Landowners or lessees adjacent to a highway ditch have the first option to cut or bale free hay prior to and including July 8.

After July 8 anyone may cut or bale material without the permission of the nearby landowner or lessee, as long as the same activity or mowing is not underway.

Grain Growers ask farmers and consumers to help protect the family farm

Prairie farmers are being encouraged to let their thoughts be known on the impact the changes to the Capital Gains will have on their operations when it comes into effect June 25th.

The Grain Growers of Canada have set up a site "protectfamilyfarms.ca"  for people to sign a petition and register to email their MP on the damage  Ottawa's proposed changes will have on family farms.

Humboldt’s Jacob Wassermann Paris bound for Paralympic rowing

Humboldt’s Jacob Wassermann has never backed down from a challenge. Now, he is embarking on his latest adventure with the same determination and courage he’s always exhibited.  

The Saskatoon Club rowing phenom will represent Canada at the 2024 Paris Paralympics. Wassermann has recently been named to Team Canada and will compete in the PR1 Men’s single event. Jacob is coached by High Performance coach Andrew Knorr out of the Saskatoon Rowing Club where Jacob began his journey just two short years ago.
