Border strike averted after union reaches tentative agreement with Ottawa

Workers at Canada's borders are no longer planning to go on strike this week after their union reached a tentative agreement with the federal government.

The Public Service Alliance of Canada said Tuesday it reached a deal with the government for Canada Border Services Agency employees after working "around the clock." 

If such an agreement couldn't be hammered out, the union had been planning for a strike of more than 9,000 members beginning 12:01 a.m. on Friday. 

Planned power outage in Aberdeen for June 12


SaskPower has announced that there will be a planned power outage tomorrow, Wednesday June 12 in Aberdeen. The outage is being done to allow for system

maintenance that will begin at 9:00 am and will last until 4:00 pm and will affect customers west of Central Avenue.

Highway 5 construction resumes

As sure as the changing of the seasons comes summertime construction. That means the resumption of the major project on Highway 5 from the south junction of Highway 2 and Saskatoon. The ongoing multi-year project has travellers slowing down with signal-controlled stops throughout the summer and fall construction months. This year will be no different, the Ministry of Highways reports.  

Sunday split for 18U AAA Red Sox vs White Butte

It was a split Sunday for the 18U AAA Red Sox down south as they faced the White Butte Broncos in a double header.  

The Sunday opener was a strong 12-3 showing for the Red Sox led by Cam Marshak at the plate going three for four, all singles at critical moments in the game. 

It was an eight run seventh inning that cracked the game open for the Sox. Cade Armstong singled for a pair, and Carter Dosch's sacrifice for another opened the floodgates. 

Broncos add an additional selection in the 2024 SJHL Draft


With the SJHL Draft coming up Tuesday, the Humboldt Broncos have added an extra draft pick.

They acquired the 21st overall selection of the 2009 portion of the draft on Monday from the Notre Dame Hounds in exchange for Future Considerations.

The SJHL Draft gets underway at 3:00, the Broncos currently own the 10th overall pick. 

RCMP seeking help in case of a stolen cell phone

Humboldt/Lanigan R.C.M.P. are asking for the public’s assistance regarding a theft of cell phone. 

The incident occurred on Wednesday, June 5 at a restaurant 15th block of 8th Avenue in Humboldt. A picture of the suspect, who appears to be a female, can be found above.
