Joy in Newfoundland after ‘Lucky 7′ fishers survive harrowing days lost at sea
There was a powerful word being repeated in the joyful Newfoundland community of New-Wes-Valley on Sunday: "Miracle."
Over and over, residents out walking or chatting to one another in local stores described the rescue of seven fishermen from the area who had somehow survived two days in a life-raft on the Atlantic ocean as nothing short of miraculous.
"Thank you, thank you, thank you. Thank you for returning our men," Betty Lou Pollett told a crowd of hundreds at the end of a community parade held to celebrate the fishers' return.
11U Humboldt Dodgers win 2024 11U AA Tier 1 Provincial Championship
Baseball Provincials got underway this weekend and some local teams were able to bring back some hardware.
The 11U AA Humboldt Dodgers claimed the Provincial title in the 11U AA Tier 1 Championship in Prince Albert.
Begining the weekend, the Dodgers went 2-1 in the round robin, with a 6-4 win on Friday against Weyburn and followed that with a 17-8 victory
against Swift Current.
On Saturday afternoon, the Dodgers were defeated by the Unity 16-12.
Volunteers needed for 2024 Streetfest
You can lend a helping hand for the upcoming Streetfest in Humboldt.
The organizing committee needs volunteers throughout the event.
Downtown BID President Alyssa Hergott says they need extra help for the setup, working at the Street Dance including scanning the tickets at the entry point, security and bartenders.
Roughriders are back in first place
One third through the Canadian Football League season is complete and the Saskatchewan Roughriders find themselves in first place of the CFL Western Division thanks to a 19-9 win over the Winnipeg Blue Bombers on Friday night.
The Roughriders leapfrog the BC Lions on Sunday after BC was defeated by the Calgary Stampeders 25-24.
Special air quality statement issued for Humboldt area
Environment and Climate Change Canada has issued a Special Air Quality Statement.
Wildfire smoke is causing very poor air quality and reduced visibility which could fluctuate over short distances and can vary from hour to hour.
A combination of the heat along with the poor air quality in the smoke can increase risk to your health.
2024 Saskatchewan Summer Games begin in Lloydminster
The flame was lit yesterday in Lloydminster with the 2024 Sask. Summer Games getting underway.
From July 21st through 27th, over 2,000 athletes, coaches, managers, mission staff and officials, more than 800 local volunteers, and upwards of 5,000 visitors will gather in the Border City to experience the provincial multi-sport event and celebrate seven days of sport, culture, and community.

1st Half July 21-24
18U AAA Red Sox split twin bill against Regina Wolfpack
The East Central AAA 18U Red Sox ended off their regular season with a doubleheader against the Regina Wolfpack.
Each team earned a win on Saturday, the Wolfpack took Game 1 4-3, while the Red Sox responded in Game 2 3-2.
East Central 15U AAA Dodgers win wild one against Moose Jaw
The East Central AAA 15U Dodgers ended their regular season off on a high note with an 8-7 win over the Moose Jaw Canucks.
It was a walk off win for the Dodgers, which capped off a couple of wild innings to end the game. Heading into the 8th inning, the game was tied 2-2. The Dodgers were trailing 7-4 heading into the bottom of the 9th inning.
Luke Manz was 2 for 2 at the plate and drew a pair of walks and knocked two RBIs.
