Sask. planning to support steelworkers in response to U.S. tariffs: Moe
Saskatchewan Premier Scott Moe says the province is working on a plan that would help keep steelworkers employed in response to U.S. tariffs.
Moe didn't offer details on the plan Wednesday but told reporters the province would use the "strength of Saskatchewan's economy" to provide support.
"You will see what that may or may not mean in the days ahead," Moe said in Saskatoon.
Bank of Canada cuts its key interest rate to 2.75% as tariffs roil economy
The Bank of Canada lowered its benchmark interest rate by a quarter point on Wednesday as the tariff battle with the United States starts to weigh on the Canadian economy.
The policy rate stands at 2.75 per cent after the central bank’s seventh consecutive rate cut.
The move was widely expected by economists.
Bank of Canada governor Tiff Macklem said in prepared remarks Wednesday that signs of stability in inflation and momentum in the Canadian economy driven by previous rate cuts are at risk amid the trade war with the U.S.
Red Wings storm past Broncos with three third period goals
The Humboldt Broncos lost control in their pursuit of sixth place in the Saskatchewan Junior Hockey League (SJHL) standings, as they were defeated by the Weyburn Red Wings 3-2 on Tuesday night.
After a scoreless first period, Rylan Hue opened the scoring for Humboldt, as the Broncos had a slim 1-0 going into the final period.

Saskatchewan Government announces record setting Municipal Revenue Sharing
The provincial budget in Saskatchewan will be delivered on Wednesday, March 19.
But on Tuesday, during the Saskatchewan Association of Rural Municipalities, the provincial government announced one aspect of the budget, with the details of the Municipal Revenue Sharing (MRS).
Communities in the province will receive a record MRS, with $361.8 million, an increase of $21.5 million or 6.3 per cent from last year.
New pilot program created to deal with derelict buildings
On Tuesday, the Saskatchewan Association of Rural Municipalities (SARM) Convention began with an announcement from the Saskatchewan government about dealing with derelict buildings.
The Saskatchewan Government announced that it will be developing a pilot framework allowing participating municipalities to work with volunteer fire departments to safely dispose of problem, municipal-owned structures for fire fighter training exercises.
February's Protective Services Report
During Monday’s City Council Executive meeting, the monthly report for Protective Services was reported by Director Mike Kwasnica.
In February, the Fire Department responded to six incidents within the city, including a pair of fire alarm responses.
As well, they Fire Department attended four incidents in the area, including a vehicle fire, a structural fire, a two-vehicle motor vehicle collision and a single vehicle rollover.
