Premier Scott Moe announces new cabinet, opposition leader Carla Beck reacts

Premier Scott Moe announced his new cabinet, describing it as a smaller cabinet with a new minister in each position. Previously an 18-member cabinet, Saskatchewan will now have a 16 member-cabinet.  

The announcement was made on Thursday in Regina at the Government House, saying it’s a new beginning with the new government with a new mandate from the Saskatchewan voters. 

Marilyn Frey brings warmth and humour of times gone by in her new book

Marilyn Frey’s earthy and wholesome stories come from the heart, and they come from close to home. The first-time author grew up on a farm southwest of Middle Lake, and she’s preserved those formative years and a way of life gone by in her memoir “Reflections in a Farmhouse Window.” 

The author read from her book at the Reid-Thompson Library on Thursday, November 6. 

Sask RCMP provides tips on safe winter driving

With wintery conditions beginning to arrive in Saskatchewan, RCMP are cautioning motorists to proceed with caution on the roads. 

Before heading out, they recommend checking the Saskatchewan Highway Hotline. Travellers can access information on road conditions and track what roads have been plowed, salted, and/or sanded within the last two hours at hotline.gov.sk.ca/map. 

SGI highlighting the importance of designated drivers in November

SGI will be using their November Traffic Safety Spotlight to remind everyone of the importance of designated drivers.  

Last year, drug and/or alcohol impairment was a factor in 32 per cent of traffic fatalities in Saskatchewan.

Jim Pattison Children’s Hospital Radiothon raises over $1 million

Saskatchewan stepped up once again, as the Jim Pattison Children’s Hospital Radiothon raised $1,010,204 to improve care at Saskatchewan’s only children’s hospital. 

Broadcasting on 32 radio stations across the province on Tuesday and Wednesday, the radiothon aimed to raise funds for the Jim Pattison Children’s Hospital Foundation to purchase state-of-the-art cardiac and respiratory equipment. 

'Aging membership, aging buildings:' Some legion branches struggle to keep doors open

The Royal Canadian Legion branch in Montreal’s Verdun borough meets once a week in a community centre space it rents by the hour, less than 500 metres from the elegant brick building it sold over a decade ago when maintenance costs got too high. 

After years of rising rents, a forced move and general instability, its members are happy to have somewhere to meet. But president Darlene Harrison says one question keeps coming back: “When are we going to have our own home again?”
