The Royal Canadian Legion branch in Montreal’s Verdun borough meets once a week in a community centre space it rents by the hour, less than 500 metres from the elegant brick building it sold over a decade ago when maintenance costs got too high.
After years of rising rents, a forced move and general instability, its members are happy to have somewhere to meet. But president Darlene Harrison says one question keeps coming back: “When are we going to have our own home again?”

Jennifer Lemky is a retired nurse and former in EA within the Horizon School Division. She is the incumbent having served in the trustee position since 2012. She’s been the chairperson of the School Community Council for Viscount School where her daughters attend.
Winners in Junior volleyball decided at Tuesday's District Championships
The big finale for Junior volleyball in HCAA went yesterday in championship matches for four divisions across the Horizon School Division.
The day ended with the Junior Boys Champs, Humboldt Collegiate, topping the field with a 2 sets win over Englefeld in the final.
On the girls side, Lanigan high emerged from the round robin with the pennant.
